So hyped for this game that i took off Friday, Saturday and Sunday from work!

Around the Network

People are misconstrued over what the main gripe was about these high scores, by bringing up BoTW and AC or whatever. Nobody is saying that you absolutely couldn't have been bored with BoTW because it got a high metacritic score. What's being said that you guys aren't hearing, is that none of the reviewers that found the game boring in parts or flaws with it gave it a perfect score or near perfect score. They had issues and deducted points based on those issues.

All of the arguments about games being fun or not because they can be art is just semantics. Use the word engaging in place of fun for those that want to bring up a cancer game as an argument. The game doesn't have to be fun, but it should have you engaged to want to play it!

Games are games for a reason and meant to be interactive, the moment that changes and the interaction with the game is no longer important. Then these people are just making subpar movies at that point...

It's funny how a very hyped and popular 85 game on metacritic like Death Stranding is "divisive" but another very hyped and popular just barely higher on metacritic 87 game like Spider-Man last year was loved by almost everyone....Sometimes i don't get people.

Another thing that i've noticed is that most youtube reviewers that doesn't give a score on metacritic love and i mean LOVE the game. In reality, all of this drama is because IGN, Game Informer scores and Giant Bomb impressions that are repeated again and again in forums like resetera to try to build the narrative that the game bombed critically.

I think most people that were anticipating the game (and most of them don't care and don't visit gaming forums) are going to buy and like the game anyway. Don't be surprised if in a few weeks we have news about how Death Stranding is the best launch ever worldwide for a Kojima game. The hype by the mainstream audience is real...

"fun" - amusing, entertaining, or enjoyable

Picking crops in Farmville or grinding mobs to level up in a JRPG can both be said to be not fun, but it can be rewarding to do both of those things, and that's what I'm hoping to get out of Death Stranding. It might not be super thrilling gameplay, but perhaps the narrative and world-building make up for it in some way.

I do believe it's difficult to put into words, but I can sort of see how a game not being considered "fun" can still be worth your time, although I had to look up the definition of fun to be sure, as I've probably been using it the wrong way all these years. :P

It's up to 85% on MC. I think a 10/10 from Digital Chumps today was the difference maker.

So if we're a going deep with numbers and reviews...let's go deeper then. Let's put the facts on the table. Following my comparison between Death Stranding and Spider-Man and adding Horizon Zero Dawn in the mix.

Death Stranding has, right now, 75 metacritic reviews (85):

15 Perfect scores (20% of them)
24 95+ scores (32% of them)
45 90+ scores (60% of them)
12 70 or lower scores (16% of them)

Spider-Man has 116 metacritic reviews (87):

8 perfect scores (7% of them)
26 95+ scores (22% of them)
69 90+ scores (59% of them)
6 70 or lower scores (5% of them)

Horizon Zero Dawn has 115 metacritic reviews (89):

12 perfect scores (10% of them)
32 95+ scores (28% of them)
76 90+ scores (66% of them)
5 70 or lower scores (4% of them)

Interesting facts....And by the way, Horizon Zero Dawn is in my top 3 games this gen (God of War and The Witcher III being the other two), was 2nd in GOTY's in 2017, and Spider-Man was my second favorite game of 2018 after God of War (94) and ahead of RDR 2 (97) and was 3rd in GOTY's in 2018. So, if Death Strading follows a similar pattern like both of them..., i think i'm going to be fine with the game it seems. The Playstation Access video sold me defintively on the game. Can not wait.

You have a link to that video?

Sorry if it's already posted. This thread is a train wreck so I'm not that motivated to search for it.

This day and age of gaming, no one will be happy unless there game is in the 90 metas and is GOTY worthy. Thats the issue with gamers today.
You can enjoy a game in the 70s and 80s meta and dont have to be winning awards all the time.
Play what you want, iv avoided playing top end games because the game itself doesnt interest me and iv gone out to play a game like Deserts of Kharack which sits on 79 and hasnt won any awards but i absolutely love it and many here would bash the game because its not 90+.

Who cares, just buy it or dont. Not every game is meant for everyone.
