Forums - Sony Discussion - PS5 will be a "greener" console than PS4

If gamers are now so concerned about the environment they should just go out and play with their dog, that’s very eco friendly, buying physical should be banned too, what about the pc master race? I am sure those big pc with complicated cooling are very sustainable. I don’t know whT Sony is trying to do here, less consumption means power, gamers won’t be happy if their next big game doesn’t keep those 60fps, I am a big Sony fan but things have been strange since they moved to California, they are acting very similar to the way Microsoft was at the beginning of this generation.

Not impressed by Sony's flouting of politics to customers. I'm starting to miss Kaz Hirai's early CEO days at Sony. Man, Sony's gone into a pretty shitty direction lately ...

First it was the censorship, then it was progressive virtue signalling, and then they go nature loving hipster on us ?! WTF is their problem ...

Technically it's not, as dogs produce way more methane and consume way more food than a console does in their respective lifetime

It's just standby mode
PS5 has a gameplay suspension feature that uses less energy than the PS4 - with Ryan estimating that the PS5's consumption can be achieved at 0.5 watts.

I doubt they're actually going to mandate games to be less grindy... However less power consumption, means less heat, means less fan noise. That would be nice. The noise of the fan speeding up always alerts me to the next online race getting ready.

Problem with people going out to play with their dog is, most of them use their car to go to a park or trail, and use plastic bags to pick up after them. Not so eco friendly after all ;)

Wow. Now Sony is copying green from Xbox. They just don't have any shame, anymore.

There's absolutely no issue with making a more power efficient console.

Do you carry around a giant battery in a back pack to power your phone? Of course not, that would be ridiculous.

I agree with your other 2 points though. I'd prefer politics and entertainment to remain separate.

Nothing wrong with it but I have a feeling that Sony are doing this because they want to stroke their progressive ego so hard since they've made joining the "Playing for the Planet alliance" like a big deal and I don't think this is purely out of pragmatism either ...

I get this feeling....that we're all f***ed. But hey, good on whoever is making a legitimate effort.

Unbelievable people still believe sustainability is a political statement or a "leftist hobby". Y'all must love Fallout so much that you want the real world to look like that.

Good on Sony.
