Forums - Sports Discussion - The NFL Thread 2019: The Kansas City Chiefs Win Super Bowl LIV

Who do you believe will have a stronger defense in 2020?

Patriots 2 66.67%

Steelers 1 33.33%

Total:3

Our final standings for the 2019 prediction league!

Level1Death collapsed harder than the Patriots did (yes I am still bitter), so RolStoppable is our 2019 champion!

As with last year, the winner was the only person to break 170 wins. Here are the past champions by year.

2012: insomniac17: 177-79

2013: burninmylight: 172-84

2014: MTZehvor: 178-78

2015: Farsala: 166-90

2016: FatedReality: 169-87

2017: burninmylight: 174-82

2018: TheGoldenBoy: 171-85

2019: RolStoppable: 170-86

Cycychris also dropped a few spots after posting a similar 7-9 record for the week, allowing BTM and I to move up one spot each.

With that all out of the way, it's time to figure out what to do for the playoffs! Tradition would suggest a playoff bracket. Is there interest for that? If so, it'll presumably be an 11 man bracket (as Angelus has disappeared it seems), with ranks 1-3 receiving byes through the first round.

NFC playoffs look like shit compared to the AFC. The Saints are the only exciting team in the NFC imho. For the life of me I can't understand how the fucking Packers were a couple inches away from being the #1 seed in the NFC. Eagles suck, Vikings are boring, 49ers are boring, Seahawks are boring and have no defense, GB zzzzz. Meanwhile the AFC has the Titans, Ravens, and Chiefs. Even Houston can be fun to watch with Watson. AFC East teams are snoozefests though.

I'm excited for the Titans Pats game but I am expecting Bill to have a master plan and shut Tannehill down.

Kinda like he did against one of the worst teams in the league? Oh wait!

Even IF they make it out of this one, there's no way they're beating the Chiefs in their house. They've lost 3 of their last 5 games and Brady is playing like shit. Hell, they could lose WC weekend, Billy B is 12-12 against former coaches. Looks like their dynasty is now over thanks to Fitzmagic.

Fitting end to a detestable franchise that's been caught cheating 7 times.

Yes, a 12 win season and a division title serving as a true death knell for the Patriots' run of success. One wonders how any team could recover from such a horrific downturn.

Playoff Announcement

In keeping with the annual tradition of the league, we're hosting a playoff bracket. I'll just be using the rules from year's past, which you can read fully here if you so desire, but here is the gist of the idea if you're not familiar with it.

Rather than having everyone's picks be compiled into standings, each round will feature two individual users pitted against each other in a bracket format. Each user is responsible for submitting their picks both for each game's winner and the margin of victory. The winners of each round proceed to the next while the losers are eliminated. Winners are determined first by the number of correct picks, and if that number is a tie, the sum of the margin of victory.

To reward users for consistency during the regular season, we also have a little thing called Home Field Advantage. HFA essentially functions as a little extra boost. Should both users have the correct number of picks, HFA is a number that will be added onto the margin of victory number. The formula is as follows:

Home field advantage = (correct picks of the higher seed in the regular season - correct picks of the lower seed in the regular season) + ([PP of the higher seed - PP of the lower seed]/2)

And if the lower seed should have higher PP, the second half of the equation will simply be set to zero.

Should HFA produce a decimal, it will be rounded up.

If that all sounds very confusing, then don't worry and just try to predict more games right than your opponent. Here are the matchups for Wild Card weekend:

# Username Record/PDT vs. Record/PDT Username # HFA
11 Zakaro   vs.   Chris Hu 4 17
10 hatmoza   vs.   BTM 5 12
9 Farsala   vs.   MTZehvor 6 6
8 Castor   vs.   cycychris 7 1

RolStoppable, Level1Death, and sethnintendo have byes through to the Divisional Round.

I believe this should cover everything. If you have any other questions, let me know.

Wild Card Picks

Also for Farsala (and anyone else who might play me), send your picks to Rol, assuming he's still fine with it, in order to prevent any possibility of playing the numbers cheese game.

That gronk spiking Steve Harvey Lego head on fox new years eve was most lame staged event I ever saw. Have to admit though gronk did show some good dance moves at end for a white person.

Too bad he looked like a retard with that old uniform and "helmet" on.

Need picks from two more people (plus maybe Farsala depending on whether he's PM'd Rol or not). If hatmoza or cycychris happen to see this, make picks before Saturday.

I haven't received any PMs yet.

Time to post my own predictions for this playoff weekend:

Texans by 6
Patriots by 10
Saints by 14
Seahawks by 3

I am picking the Patriots because I am rooting for the Titans.

Rol did my PM get through to you? It's not showing up in my sent folder, I'm thinking something might be up with this website's messenger feature again.

If not/I don't hear back from you before like 4 PM I'm just gonna post my picks in this thread.

Posting picks in this thread just to be safe. I think these were my picks in the PM, so if the PM went through and they differ I guess just disregard those and view these as my new picks.

Texans by 7
Patriots by 14
Saints by 10
Seahawks by 7

Josh Allen with a 42yd run and a 16yd TD RECEPTION on the first drive. The dirty look on the face of the Texans' DC was priceless.
