This won't cause a terrible brand image backlash, and repairs or replacements won't cost too much, but Ninty would have better not cut too many corners, as shipping will probably cost it an order of magnitude more than repair costs themselves.

They have been fixing them for people who bothered sending it in. I don't see a reason to sue.

Very good. Was just having an email war with Nintendo about this very issue earlier this week. I have this issue on my Switch and my son's and they gave me some stupid response they showed they didn't care about the issue. Maybe this will make them sit up.

Both my Joycon and my Pro Controller have drifted. I fixed the Joycon myself, but it took an hour just to work the thumbstick cover back into all the different holes on the plastic nub. Nintendo sent me a replacement pro controller, but only after I berated the customer service rep for trying to charge me $30 shipping and repair fees. I had to point out that drift was a real issue affecting 25% of all controllers, and then I had to point out that I've bought 30+ Physical Switch games, and had been a Nintendo customer for decades.

Nintendo just needs to up and admit that they made a faulty product. Remember when MS flat out admitted to the Red Ring issue, and extended warranties? Damn, I miss those days. These days most tech only comes with a 1 year warranty, which is garbage. New tech needs to come with a 5 year warranty that covers anything not caused by customers abusing their systems. Things like literal bugs in the console, dropping the console, spilling soda, poor ventilation, etc. should not be covered by warranty. But if your system has issues just a year out, when you've been playing it normally, and taking good care of it, that is just BS.

Cool, now just file the same suit against MS for my two X1 controllers that started to drift and needed replaced, and Sony for the crappy rubber on their thumbsticks that caused them to break down with less than a year of regular use at launch.

Then we would be in business!

Yes, I remember. They did that after months of denial that there is an actual issue, because at that point they had no other choice than to concede anymore. The big difference between 360s and Joy-Cons is that the latter still allows users to use their console because only a faulty controller needs to be fixed.

I believe the Switch Lite falls into that category if it develops drift problem often.  Hopefully they used a different design for their sticks moving forward, as that is the real concern when it comes to drift.

MS didn't flat out admit the issue.  For about a year after the problem presented itself, they kept saying it was because of operator error.  Then, in July 2007, they finally admitted the problem.  The 3 year warranty was out of necessity, trying to stave off lawsuits no doubt, not because they were being nice.

I got three switches in the house and all three have serious Drift on the left ( the camera analogue) joycon. I bought one set of joycons as a replacement that lasted about 8 months till they got drift too. I swear its since my lad started playing Fornite so much. He even melted the anologue rubber off his joycon through use. I cant be arsed with it anymore it so hard to even navigate through menus etc.
