If they ever remaster FFVIII they need to do some big tweaks in the gameplay, anything else would be pointless.

Yes. We rarely got to use magic in FF8 because you couldn't use them. Magic was reserved for stats and keeping them was precious. The battle system was pretty much spamming summons until the end. There were some very nice Guardian Force animations though.

My memories of FF8 magic are only thanks to the final bosses because she would murder your GFs and force you to say: "Fuck it, I need to spend these spells because I got nothing else, it's the end of the game anyways so screw it."

I only ever used summons at the very start of the game because the strong magic draws weren't available yet. After that it's just about clever binding. No point in using GFs if your stats are maxed out by magics.

So you used attacks, limit breaks and Draw/cast against the enemies?

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

I honestly don't see many advantages over the PC 2013/2014 HD variant? Especially once loaded with mods... Would have been amazing if it was a remake.
Still my favorite game in the franchise though! Day 1 purchase.

Well, this time it's on consoles and hopefully doesn't require modding to get the original OST. They haven't really gone into detail yet.

Mmm ... mechanically it doesn't change that it's one of the most easily broken battle system in the whole series.

Btw, wasn't the reason they couldn't do a remaster to begin with orignally because they lost the source code ? How did they retrieve it ?

The source code thing was just an explanation we invented because it seemed plausible, but we never knew the truth. We probably never will because if Square didn't speak about it before then they probably won't now.

I guess you mean remake, not remaster. I think they'd take in a similar direction to the FFVII remake and I wouldn't mind seeing that.

Never used any magic. It's literally only attacks and healing items and limit breaks of course. As soon as I can access new magic to draw I'll max it out and bind it. Limit breaks with maxed stats are already way too powerful. All that GFs would do is drag out the fight.

Did you not use Aura to spam more Limit Breaks?

I was very young when I played FF8 so I would refrain from keeping my character in low health to activate the limit breaks. There was Aura though, but that was another spell I would use for Junction.

I experimented with Draw-Cast for a while but never used it that much. If I remember correctly the spells you could draw from enemies were spells that didn't have much effect against those same enemies either. Fire monsters = fire spells = useless against them. But of course, you would draw spells from monsters for Junction, until you could fly to the "Island Clases to Hell" and "Island Closest to Heaven" (if I remember correctly the name of those islands ^^')

When I battled I spammed GFs and indeed they dragged the fight a lot.

I guess that now that I am older I would play the game differently and be more wise in my playthroughs, just like it felt to revisit old Resident Evil games some months ago and how easy they felt to beat in comparison to how I remembered them.

The key to the game is GF leveling, controlling how they level. Early game bosses is using them to do the fighting for you as they are more powerful than you, late game is you doing it instead after leveling them up correctly. The Junction system is actually more in depth then people think.

Most important is Refine abilities, they allow you to compensate for lack of draw to max out characters traits.

After about a few hours, I don't even use items at all, my main thing is Attack, Magic, Draw, GF with a couple of other things later. Magic was only for heals or elemental bosses. Final bosses are 'Meltdown', to burn them, then Aura on Squall who has ultimate on Attack. Win.

If PS5 BC is a thing, I'll considering getting this as long as it's not too expensive. I mean I can play FF8 whenever but would be nice if I could just turn on an play at sometime.

Hmm, pie.

There was not a single overworld shot in the trailer.
The char models in the world are by far the ones needing an upgrade the most.
Nice news, tho.
Everybody getting their favs bought back.
Except me, of course.

I was hoping for a look at the pre-rendered sections. I've been disappointed with the upscaling on VII and IX, fans have done better. I expect this to have the same flaws as those two remasters but I'm still happy.

LoD is a good game, unfortunately Sony doesn't seem very keen on revisiting their PS1 days (outside of lacklustre mini consoles), but I guess if Medievil can get a remake then there is a sliver of hope.

We got HD versions or revision of basically anything.

Spyro and Crash got remakes, Medievel and Shadow of the Colossus got remakes (and it got a remaster with ICO before), Metal Gear Solid and the 3 Final Fantasy got remasters (plus FF7 remake), Gran Turismo and Ace Combat never stopped, Symphony of the Night is in a PS4 collection, God of War and Uncharted series got remasters and current gen games, Jak and Daxter and Sly Cooper got remasters, Twisted Metal, Parappa...

Most of the exclusives by Sony or not got some kind of upgrade to modern systems (PS3/PS4).

I guess they finally found the source code they apparently lost.

Predictions (Made July 2019)

LTD: PS4 - 130m, Switch - 110m, XBO - 52m       2019 : PS4 - 15m, Switch - 18.8m, XBO - 4.8m        2020: Switch - 22m (Peak Year)

Aura was one of the good spells to couple, not sure which stat. I never really felt the need for it. Though I have to say I never honestly tackled Omega Weapon where I might have needed it.
