Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony will no longer allow retailers to sell digital codes for games, add-on cards and PSN$ cards will remain

This is the digital future, where the only place you can buy games is on the platform-holder's own storefront. There is no incentive for Sony, MS or Nintendo to sell these digital voucher codes anymore when physical is gone, Sony is only pulling the trigger early

I usually buy my digital codes from other sites or ebay because they're cheaper than the official store...

Hopefully Microsoft doesn't follow Sony.

Of course. All things are falling into place. Yes, MS will follow.

seems like a good April 1st joke

CPU: Ryzen 7950X
GPU: MSI 4090 SUPRIM X 24G
Motherboard: MSI MEG X670E GODLIKE
RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR PLATINUM 32GB DDR5
SSD: Kingston FURY Renegade 4TB
Gaming Console: PLAYSTATION 5

I hope PC games does not follow this. There are some stores that likes to put some off season sales.

Sony please don't go back to your arrogant ways. This seems like a good way to piss off retailers.

Guuuuuuuuys, its like you have your heads buried in the sand. Why would SONY care about pissing retailers as we move towards a digital/streaming era? Gamespot is obsolete and will be no more by next gens end. Dont think that retailers will stop selling their consoles. No way. Hottest items year round. Honestly this only really hurts Gamespot.

This is going to stop Gamespot from doing reviews n stuff??

Thats pretty sad, So now they want to stop customers from going into gaming stores completely especially since gaming is going full digital.
Only reason they would be doing this is to gain majority of the profits via there own store.
I hope the others dont follow suit, i am already finding it hard to visit the stores as it is.

Even though Nintendo recently is allowing Humble Bundle to sell digital codes for 3DS and Switch games. And ever since the Switch release I've been seeing a ton of Digital Download games for 3DS and Switch at Best Buy and Target.
