Who said that? That hasnt been the argument at all.

"42% of marketshare lost"

"86 million in isolation sounds great, but when you consider PS3 lost nearly half of PS2's marketshare"

"[PS3] gutted Sony's console marketshare."

"But, this completely ignores everything I pointed out about lost marketshare, massive financial losses which completely erased their own profits from their unbelievably successful previous gen, and substantial amount of lost customers. "

"PS3 still gutted Sony's console marketshare."

Yeah, no one has made an argument that the PS3 is considered "unsuccessful" because it never sold as well as the PS2. Nope. Never happened.

That's completely different than your previous comment though.

Mandalore & Curl (the people you are quoting) have said the combination of huge financial losses, huge marketshare loss and huge customer loss is why PS3 is seen as a failure.

Neither of them said PS3 was unsuccessful just because it did less than PS1/PS2. It's the combination of a few factors.

I never said that people were saying the PS3 was unsuccessful ONLY because it sold less than PS1/PS2.

That's exactly what you did here

"The 5th highest selling home console of all time is considered "unsuccessful" because it didn't sell as well as the first and second best selling consoles of all time.

Nobody has PS3 was unsuccessful because it did sold less than PS1/PS2.

Well let me apologize that I worded it in such away that it could be interpreted in a way that I did not intend.

While I don't expect Switch to have the insane giraffe-like legs of the PS2, I expect it will stay ahead of PS1/PS3/360 and outsell them lifetime given its current trajectory.

At this point I can definitely see it being feasible for Switch to end up as the third biggest console ever, behind the DS/PS2 behemoths. The momentum is huge and I feel like Nintendo is just really gearing up in the software department. Having one console for all of their development will avoid the amputee software lifespan the Wii got and allow Switch to be a big seller for another 3-4 years.

Ya I'm thinking above PS1/Wii (~100m) but below GB/PS4 (~120m).
