What's left for Xbox BC... that actually matters? (Definitive List Edition)

Forums - Microsoft Discussion - What's left for Xbox BC... that actually matters? (Definitive List Edition)

Microsoft has done a fantastic job getting the most notable content of the 360 era on backwards compatibility. Given they're going through the owners of these games, expectations were low on what they could get but they've greatly exceeded the expectations of most I assume.

Ideally everything would be emulated, but that's not gonna happen and getting notable games is most important. In a recent article I saw backwards compatibility ended in 2018 with 550 games in total, with over 100 added in 2018. So what's left to be added? But more importantly what does BC really need that people are demanding and the remaining gems.

In my list there might be games that seem like odd additions or some notable content ignored. Some games were ignored because superior versions exist as ports, while some remain on the list because the ports were disappointments or the original versions are still interesting for reasons.

I think this list will also put into perspective what content could come and perhaps there aren't THAT MANY more games backwards compatibility REALLY NEEDS.

I want Resident Evil 4.

I refuse to pay for it again.

I had it on GC, Wii and 360.

Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis matters, but unlikely to happen due to licensing.

I have a few dozen games that I would like to see made BC, but you have covered them all pretty much.

Timesplitters would be great,  the silent hill games are in the collection tho (it is the not the best version oh well)

I hear ya, but Capcom's record has been remastered (or planned for remaster) games don't get on BC.

For what its worth you can find RE4 cheap whether it be during a deal or a used physical copy. I like having the X1 version because 1080p/60 fps versus 720p/30 fps on 360. But I think the 360 version is interesting for using the original Gamecube assets.

Silent Hill 2 and 3 are in the HD collection and bad port jobs. Original Xbox had 2 and 4. So at the very least I imagine they would add Silent Hill 4 to BC.

However, if they can add OG Xbox's Silent Hill 2 I think fans would like that. Digital Foundry considered that a notable port.

If ssx 3 could get ported, I think jsrf could, too.

Anyway, great lists!

EA seems to be an exception when it comes to licensing deals, kind of like movie companies. They seem to have the ability to keep selling products. You can buy old Need for Speed games, Burnout games, Fight Night games and other old titles using licensed content.

That's why I see Def Jam NY as a potential addition. This may actually be a matter of whether or not EA wants to do it. EA is also motivated to have more EA Access content which I gladly subscribe to.

Thanks, I'm getting the impression people mostly agree this is the content BC needs. If MS adds another 100+ games in 2019 to BC, it will hopefully be many games found in this list. BC is also a big chunk of Game Pass content. So that's a motivator for MS to keep adding games to BC.
