Between Skyward Sword through Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition - Nintendo has either released a new Zelda game or had one known to be soon released at all times. Through this time we've averaged 1-2 Zelda games a year actually.

Feels like 2019 could be the first time in awhile they let the franchise rest a bit. With as well as BOTW is still selling and Hyrule Warriors out there again, I don't think Nintendo is in a rush to bring on HD remakes or smaller Zelda games to Switch yet. Given none of those have been announced yet, the earliest those would seem to come is late 2019 - the time Nintendo presumably will focus on Animal Crossing, Pokemon and maybe Bayonetta 3 or Metroid Prime 4.

I wouldn't jump to quick. They may be saving it for an E3 announcement next year and release next year.

No, not a big Breath of the Wild game, but the team that does the 3DS games. What have they been up to. I don't think Nintendo is done with the top down style Zelda's

Way too early to say for sure, I’m certain that they have a new 2D Zelda game in the works. It should be a Switch game, but it could be a 3DS swan song. But I’m certain we’ll at least see a reveal in 2019 and maybe a release scheduled for the holidays.

You could be right, but 2019 seems to be a perfect year for Skyward Sword HD. It doesn't take many resources and can fill a gap in Nintendos release-schedule without taking the light from other big first-party titles.

They can always make a 2D Zelda. Those are easy to do, they wouldn't need to announce too early.

As far as I'm concerned, Breath of the Wild was the first legitimately major Zelda game since Ocarina of Time.

I mean, a Zelda game is rarely small, Twilight Princess, Ocarina of Time Remake, and even Skyward Sword, Wind Waker, and Link Between Worlds were all fairly big games, BUT - when you think of truly landmark titles where hordes of people are saying "This will be the best game of all time" and then upon getting it "This is the best game of all time" - as what happened with Breath of the Wild - then it's been since Ocarina of Time since that has happened; and prior to Ocarina of Time, it was Link to the Past.

In any case, for some sort of a Zelda presence, we have about 8 months for an announcement if there's a port of something comping in 2019.

I'd love to see a Zelda 2 remake. With the popularity of side-scrollers, I think this is an optimal time for such a thing.

I think there is a good chance any of these can happen:
Skyward Sword HD, which completes the 3D/HD remaster series which started with OOT.3d
New 2d zelda for Switch
Link's Awakening remake for 3DS. (we have rumors of this flying around).

There will be SOMETHING next year. If we want to talk, e3 2018 is the first year in a while without any zelda game

Yeah I’d be hoping for a new top down Zelda before we get the next ‘proper’ successor to the botw...whether it’s on 3ds or switch who knows? though it would be more convenient for me personally on switch as I put my 3ds in the basement. I wouldn’t rule out a remaster or remake either. Skyward Sword would be a good fit for switch and it never quite got the Justice it deserved on the Wii imo. Also it could benefit greatly from an hd makeover.
