People hate Nintendo that much that they're going in and voting it 1?

Come on! I know this is a video game forum, but you anti-Nintendo fans can't be THAT petty =P

Hello!

Are you new here? Welcome to VGC!

It's always been like this.

I've got to say, this poll is surprising me.

Nintendo fans are usually pretty good at calling these things for what they are and therefore end up bringing the number down by a full point. The fact that the largest number of votes is going to the "9" rating is pretty crazy. Of course, this is probably because most fans managed their expectations and the meat of this Direct truly defied them.

The real surprise for me, though, is that the other fanbases don't seem to be attempting to rain on this parade. Certainly there are 6 votes for 1's, which is just objectively impossible. That's cool...every poll needs an option to steer away the haters. Some of those even may have picked the 3's, and 4's. But given the legion of Sony fans on this site, it would seem they are at least voting somewhat positively, otherwise the bottom and the top of this poll would be identical. It's great to see support and recognition on content alone without the usual biases in many forums.

Bottom line, though, is that this wasn't E3. There was nothing to win or lose for the other companies. This is just a Direct and it means nothing. What it does mean, though, is that Nintendo fans will have a great 2019 regardless of the genre they play. It's a good time to be a NIntendo fan and a great time to be a gamer. At least for the time being this hobby is about games and game announcements and not about polygon counts, terraflops, or gpus or cpus. It's about quality product being developed across the board that would make gamers from yesteryear's heads explode.

Well, I'm very much a Nintendo fan and I gave it a 4. But yeah, I play Smash, what do I know.

I think your comment supports my statement about Nintendo fans being over critical of Nintendo.

But seriously, you gave it a 4?  What would have made you give it a 5 or even a 6?

I'd think if you were such a Smash fan you would have really enjoyed the reveal of Isabelle.

Nah, the Isabelle reveal was the worst. I was already expecting a character reveal of course, so it would have to be hype to get me excited, and Isabelle isn't hype at all, plus her trailer was really underwhelming. Compare it to the awesome Ridley trailer featuring Mario and Mega Man (rip), or the Belmonts trailer featuring Luigi (rip), or Dedede trolling the Kongs as K. Rool and stuff like that... there were a lot of memorable moments in these trailers and they were loads of fun to watch even if we already knew where they were going, but the Isabelle one..? At first I thought it was a new Animal Crossing, and I was fine with that, but from the moment she mentioned Smash it was just a slog until we got some gameplay of a character I didn't really want in the game - but then again, I can barely mention a couple characters I'd still want in the game at this point other than pipe dreams like Amaterasu or Hollow Knight. Then, when I was already disappointed, they teased Tom Nook as an echo fighter and I was like "NOOO" and then it was an actual new Animal Crossing and well, that was fine. But not a good way to reveal either thing in my opinion.

I'd have probably given it a 5 if I voted today. For it to be a 6, it'd have probably needed to not feature that awful Nintendo Online moment, which confirmed to us, in very pretty words, that we really are being ripped off for the same crappy online we've been enduring with Nintendo since the DS days and some NES games no one cares about... and they still dared to say they're gonna "reveal more details later". Ugh. That whole thing just made me really salty, it single-handedly turned an otherwise average direct into an insulting one in my eyes. That is to say, I couldn't really care about anything they showed afterwards unless it was really hype, and nothing was.

Fair enough.  I'm not that much of an online gamer and $20/year for a subscription service seems really low to me in a day and age when I spend $12-$15 a month on services like Hulu, Amazon Prime, and Netflix.  I expect the offerings to be more robust in the future, and voice chat doesn't matter that much to me.  But I completely understand how paying for a gimped service in comparrison to the other online offerings seems insulting.  I also assume you're not much of an Animal Crossing fan.  I am, and that reveal was the perfect amount of misdirection...and that slog was intentional.  Even Tom Nook clicking on the SWITCH of the lamp showed that Nintendo was not just trolling us, but themselves.  They were basically using that lamp as a metaphor for their spotty releases and showing that give Nintendo time and they'll bring the light.  In my opinion, this Direct was that light shining.  It was the proof that the Switch will be supported and that there will be do droughts.

Solid 9 for me, fast paced, I've been waiting Luigi's Mansion since forever, Town looks promising, Yoshi has recieved some major improvements, Katamari is always welcome and Animal Crossing is a BIG DEAL

That's kinda funny. My friend was telling me the E3  Direct was better because it focused more on Smash and that is what "people actually cared about".

I don't intend to police opinions but I was a little ticked off by that claim.

It was a good ND. One of the best in recent times… surely better than the last two E3s!

For me, i liked the LM 3, the Capcom bundle and the FF 7 and 12 announcement (not really a classical RPG!).
Although i love the idea of replaying that franchise, another mansion is not as enticing anymore. Really hope the scenery changes substantially.
The above also serves for gameplay.

That Capcom bundle looks really cool. Wish it had more Final Fight games - as i have played most of the FF1.
If it does well enough, other developers (Sega, Namco, etc...) can bring their arcade and other titles, too.

The FF games are a good move SE but nothing mind blowing.
Porting old games is nothing spectacular and the real meaning in this announcement is due to no FF on a Nintendo home console for 20 years. To me, a bigger move would have been porting FF 15 or making something new.

Those NES games look good.
Hoping that SMB 2 arrives a.s.a.p.

The letdown:
Nintendo did a lot to create an image of a console for SONY and MS fans, and whatnot, and they have failed to bring anything more than ports, multiplats, but no real title to rival the best titles today and make it an exclusive.
Animal Crossing is a system seller, but it's mainly in Japan.

FF/10
This console is having a lot of game!

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

I rate this a 7/10.
+ Yoshi looks like it got a graphical upgrade, and this showing was much better than the one on last E3. Might actually but this one. Was the standout game for me.
+ Aside from the three holiday exclusives, third party support is coming along nicely. Cities Skylines shadow-dropped, Diablo, Warframe, Civ, Starlink, Megaman, Team Sonic Racing and more for the holiday.
+ a trillion FF games (I don't give a shit about FF, but looking at people reactions I guess it was a good thing)
+2019 is already looking better than 2018 in terms of first party (ANIMAL CROSSING FINALLY! Luigi's mansion 3 looked cool too.)
-Daemon X Machina looks like utter dogshit
- lets go pokemon looks like an excuse of a core pokemon game
- wasnt sold on the online sub (only NES games? c'mon ninty, you can do better than this)
-wasted a smash character slot on fucking isabelle. fuck that.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

I'll give it a 9.

It didn't have a ton of stuff I'll get, but I went in expecting basically nothing and this presentation blew me away. I was expecting a generic direct and this almost felt like an E3 direct. Yes some stuff got spoiled, but still it was a very very enjoyable watch.

Daemon X Machina looks great!

And what do you mean Let's Go looks like an "excuse" of a core Pokemon game? It's not a core Pokemon game ...
