Russia is shockingly fun to watch when they are hot. The fan-team dynamic really makes for fun football and you just can't help but to root for them. Uruguay gave Russia (and us) a reality check though... and España will crush them. While Spain doesn't have the greatest defense I think they are one of the better goal scorers this world cup so far.

I agree completely about Russia which is why I'd love to see them beat Spain. At the very least I hope they put up a good fight and score a goal or two even if they do lose.

We could end up in a situation where Spain are the only former champions on one side of the bracket. Something similar happened in 2014, but of course in a bracket where 7/8 never won the World Cup before Argentina ended up being the team to make the final.

I don't know much about soccer. How highly regarded is Olympics soccer?

Not that highly. Olympic football is essentially a youth competition (only 3 players over the age of 23 are allowed per team), so it's not particularly prestigious.

Ah, I see. I also see it's called Olympic football and not soccer, haha!

Thanks!

Could this be Messi's year. We will see. It will be interesting

The actual official term for the sport is association football.

Nah

As shown against Croatia, a team with a competent midfield will tear them apart.

Or they will prevail regardless the next time around, it's not that unusual in football. In 1990 Argentina pretty much stumbled the whole tournament all the way to the finals.

Maradonas middle finger is the best thing about the world cup so far. Now that's quality TV.
