It didn't sell decently on PS3/360. Platinum themselves said the first game was a "C or even a D" in sales.

The whole reason it ended up Nintendo exclusive is that Sega didn't want to fund Bayo 2 on PS3/360 cos the first game underperformed. Nintendo then stepped in and saved it because it was the kind of game their lineup was missing. The fact that it's not the kind of game traditionally associated with Nintendo is precisely why they picked it up, to add variety to their library.
