It'll obviously outsell the One but outselling a failure of a console is hardly a reason to celebrate. Or did Vita fans throw a party for outselling the poor Wii U?

Selling 35 million units in four years is hardly a failure, imo. With sales trending upward this year, amd witha good three years left, the X1 is likely to surpass the 50 million mark too. Which would be ahead of the SNES.

So does that mean SNES is a failure also?

You obviously can't compare the SNES generation with this generation. The gaming industry was tiny back then. Xbox One is a failure compared to its predecessor and compared to its competitors and those are the only relevant metrics.

compared to its predacessor, its only slightly behind Xbox 360 when launches are aligned. Compared to the PS4, yeah, I guess you can say its failure. But its other competition was the wii u. Compared to that, it was a success.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

42% XB1 worth sales in little over a year ... of course it's going to outsell it.

The 5th X Box will be the XB2?

Unless Microsoft has something hidden, yes, NSW may beat it before 2020

My Total Sales prediction for PS4 by the end of 2021: 110m+

When PS4 will hit 100m consoles sold: Before Christmas 2019

5th? What was the 4th then?

Bet Shiken that COD would outsell Battlefield in 2018. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=8749702

Yes, it kind of was an April Fool's topic -- and also a take on Xeno's Arrow Paradox ("by the time Switch reaches XBOX One, it will have pulled ahead, etc.)

But glad to see so many interesting responses. On the other hand, it is still a useful reminder that the Switch is unlikely to catch up with PS4, let alone XBOX One (before 2020, at least). By then, we could well be looking at Sony's and Microsoft's next-gen systems.

Not that the Switch is affected by the competition. It seems to be working very well for Nintendo to have abandoned the direct head-on battle with Sony and MS.

A rumor stated by Nintendo’s president.

http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2018/01/nintendo_president_aims_for_20_million_switch_units_to_be_shipped_next_year

yeah sure jan.

A 20m rumour which you added 5-10m on to? Why did you add the extra 5-10m?

I think people get that confused with WSJ report that was earlier that was saying that Nintendo plans to produce 25-30m in Switch units in 2018.

Easily. Absolutely.
