Is it really only an American thing? Starting the week on the day of the sun instead of the day of the moon (or any of the planets) makes so much more sense than any alternative.

I'm sure there are other places as well, but Monday to start the week is international standard. And I dont really agree with your analogy regarding start of the week, why would that make much more sense at all? :P If we go down that way clearly the day of the moon makes the most sense since the moon is up at the very start of the day hehe
