Forums - Nintendo Discussion - US: Switch has sold more consoles than any other platform in history on a time-aligned basis

This makes me think that launching a new console in feb, so you can benefit from extra sales in the holidays (that arnt the fanboys/guaranteed sales) is better.

Im not sure theres a big benefit from launching in novemeber/december, like console makers have done in the past.
Theres a "core" user base, that ll always adapt early, and those guys/gals buy whenever it launches.
Then your sold out (usually) in the first year, just ruining your holiday boost.

Nintendos way of launching early in the year makes more sense to me, that way you dont risk wasteing your first holidays.

Sony and MS probably likes to release it near like Cod, Assassin Creed, Battlefield.

There are quicker and more comfortable ways to take your own life, you know.

If I wanted it to be quick and comfortable I would be watching Land of the Lustrous.

Don't confuse heaven with death. Some experience will take you to heaven without the death requirement. For example Houseki no Kuni.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I remember when Nintendo's new President said back in 2016 he aims to return to Wii like profits and people on VGC said it was a pipe dream now they've outsold the Wii U in 10 months, cardboard has added $1.4b to their value and we haven't even got to Pokemon and Animal Crossing yet.

If you can launch earlier in the year, then yeah it's surely going to be beneficial. You get all the launch hype sales and holiday sales without losing out on one for the other. But having it ready to release earlier is an issue, and delaying it from a holiday launch seems kind of silly too. Why wait when you could be selling consoles straight away?

The problem is production.
No one launches and has enough stock to make full use of the 1st holidays, when you launch in dec/november.

Its always plagued by stock issues, always. It seems wastefull to me. I think its smarter launching early like Nintendo did, if we re just talking about what benefits  "you" as a console maker, and wanting a fast growing install base early.

I've been saying this since before the Switch released.  Launching near the holidays is a waste.  Most consoles are going to face stock problems even without the extra burden of holiday sales.  Now, it's understandable if logistics say you can't launch earlier but there really is no reason to wait otherwise.

It also gives you a better chance at helpful PR like this.

It could be whatever you want as long as it fit in your argument.

So marathon and doom it is.

Maybe even Halo. But not likely.

Well 3DS will be 75m+ and Wii is 100m+, both are good numbers. :)

Wii could have beaten the ps2.

And if nintendo keeps up what they did in 2017.

and as of right now besides the horrible labo junk they are doing pretty good.

Switch could be gigantic, not just in hardware sales but  also the physical software library.

No way that Wii could beat PS2, even if Nintendo pushed Wii year or two more, it could sell 10-20m top. PS2 had crazy long life and was selling great even after PS3 was out.

You dont realise that Labo is strengthening Switch beacuse Switch with Labo is reaching kids/parents market. Switch will probably quite big SW and HW wise even if dont reach Wii numbers (I dont say it want reach Wii numbers).

It didn't work for 3DS.

Without a good library, it's better to wait untio holidays.

If in this reality heaven means Land of the Lustrous, I can only imagine Hell being slightly worse, like Steven Universe or something.

We all know the Switch launch is good

The focus is now shifted for long term and how much it can sell for LT

What about about 12 months a more log benchmark that will include the So I'd first full holiday sales?

After 12 months Switch will be the 3rd fastest selling console in American history, only behind the Wii and PS2.
