Forums - Sales Discussion - Switch > XB1 > PS4 During December In US - Greenberg (Confirmed, read OP)

I failed with my prediction, Switch > ps4 > xbox one
Though got my prediction correct of Switch losing November but winning December

Based on the data available so far it looks like for NPD 2017 holiday season it was

1. Xbox One
2. PS4
3. Switch

I'm guessing not many here picked the Xbox One to win the Gold medal and the Switch to come last, so congrats to MS I suppose. Now thats something concrete that Greenberg could of tweeted

He actually has a point.

Switch can run PS4/Xb1 games that run 1080/60 fps, and do it at lower resolution and 30fps.
Other more typical games, the switch just doesnt run at all, its only the less demanding ones where they can cut fps, that they port.

By the time PS5/XB2 comes out, getting ports will be a HUGE issue for the switch.
That could limit its lifetime as he said, by then you ll have a Switch 2 ready.

Basically switch probably wont have a long life ahead of it, it ll get a updated model... a Switch 2.0, thats backwards compatable.... and able to handle certain ports of the PS5/XB2.  *IF* This doesnt happend, the alternative is the Switch just stops getting ports, and then does what the Wii did, it falls off a cliff.

The switch can run ps4 games with the same framerate, downgrades are only required in resolution and graphics. There are no games that wouldn't run at all on the switch. When ps5 arrives in 2019, most of it's games will be cross gen early on and the switch won't have any problem getting those. By the time more games start taking advantage os ps5 power, it will be 2021 already and the switch successor will release.

Switch won't be getting any 2.0 model as you describe,  only a proper successor.

For the topic, x1 sales are 60% from US so not much of a surprise it got second place.

Yes sure... just cut a little on the graphics and all PS5 games will run on Switch ¬¬

And you are the same that said PS4 will sell less than 13M on 2018 right? Want to bet your permaban on it?

Did you not read my post? I never said a game made with ps5 in mind would be ported to switch.

Yea it looks the the XBO was the best selling console this holiday in the US. The X really did help them out.

Yes I read... so a cross gen isn't made with the next gen in mind?? Also you will forget to aknowledge that you claimed PS4 will sell less than 13M next year?

I really don't think the Switch will only be put on the market for 4 years by Nintendo.

In my opinion the N64 was not just the best console of the 5th gen but, to this day the best console ever created!

Cross gen are made with the last gen in mind. I'm talking about ps4 first games that also release on ps5's first year, no different than what happened with ps3 games on ps4 in 2014.

End of 2011 is basically 5 years after the switch. And they don't need to kill it. Support like the 3ds had in 2016 and 2017 for 2022 and 2023 will keep fans satisfied.

Depends on the demand then. If it's still doing well, a replacement won't even have been announced. At the end of the day, it's the consumers who ultimately decide, albeit indirectly,  which consoles get a replacement.

But releasing it in 2021 will help steal ps5's thunder and get it's multiplats.

PS4 crossgen games were made with PS4 in mind but with workable versions on PS3.

Yet case in point, Switch can't run all PS4 games currently released (like let's say FF XV) unless severely compromissed. Or do you think it can?
