I expected the US to have better Switch numbers TBH. I thought Mario would boost the Switch more in the US than in Japan, but since supply still hasn't met demand there, I guess that point is moot..?

Anyways I thought it would do around 150k in the US and around 400k global but, it's done great numbers regardless.

Also, and I don't mean to be rude, some people tend to forget that Nintendo has another platform which is doing fine. So the amount of Nintendo hardware sold this week was about 500k.

But, well, in the end what matters is that the console market is now in a pretty healthy position. 

Yeah, a few years ago if you (not you personally, just general you) bought into the fear mongering about mobile, you´d think this time we´re in now, in 2017, we´d have no choice but play everything on mobile because it´d totally obliterate dedicated gaming hardware.

This really makes me happy about the Switch. PS4 was doing great and would surely sell more than any of last gen consoles, but even if it does 130M it wouldn't offset the small decrease from 360 to X1 plus the huuuuge decrease between both Wii consoles. This gen would most likely end up way below the previous one. With Nintendo doing great again I think it's quite reasonable that we can see this gen beating the previous one.

Handhelds will still show a sharp decrease, but smartphones killed those with nuclear fire.



Bet with jetforcejiminy: PS4 will pass the Wii lifetime numbers.
