Clearly, Nintendo and Microsoft no counter this.

Nintendo won't 'counter' this because just like Sony, they have a long term plan and they stick to it. Only MS have a knee jerk strategy.

The kind where the jerk hits the bottom of the table and leaves a bruise

They can't and the Switch is already trailing behind the PS4 in Europe in it's first year which was by far it's SLOWEST year. After March which included the launch and April which was the month after the launch, PS4 started nearly doubling Switch's European numbers from then onwards ...

Some people insist that the Switch will somehow outsell the PS4 without the right demographics to boot ... (It can't be Japan who will make up for the difference since the nation is on a decline and even if we assume that the Switch will maintain current pace, it'll only be moderately above 3DS's numbers fro NA and EU)

Microsoft and Nintendo know that Europe is par for trouble in that region ...

My take is, switch will eventually outsell the Xbox One but by the time the next generation is well underway for PlayStation and Xbox and the switch is on its way out, the PS4 will still lead by 45-55m, finishing somewhere between 95m and 115m, putting switches sales at that point around 55-65m, xbox one I believe will end this generation at 45-52m

Switch I believe will pass the Xbox one just as it's reaching then end of it's shelf life, and news of it passing will publish along side the reveal of the next generation of consoles, with the switch going on for a couple more years to increase it's sales by another 8-12m

For when this gets quoted in a few years time, hello from November 2017 version of me!

And people still ask why it is Sony have bundles and deals in Europe they don't have in the US. As I keep saying, WW sales are all that matter.

B..b..but media create and npd..

PS4 doing about 2.5 times USA on Europe is quite strong... and Switch totals aren't that far away... still keeping like 3x of X1 sales.

Waiting for the week of X1X release to see WW estimatives, all regional numbers seem quite good.
