Forums - General Discussion - Fundraising ideas on going to Vietnam

I'm going to Nam this upcoming Summer for a Mission trip. Now I feel terrible asking anyone for money so I'm trying to come up with beneficial ways I can raise the money. My thoughts are... Birthday and Christmas money, ask anyone who gives to me to put it in the fundraiser. Then my uncle owns a farm, ask him if I can work hours there and instead of being paid put it towards the fundraiser. Any other ideas?

The church wanted me to go around asking people I know because "it is their calling", and I can't say this will be helpful to myself or anyone else because I've never done anything like this. So ideas would be great.

host a massive tekken tournament. tell them the first price is $1000. But that they need $100 to buy a slot.

THere will be glorious battles.

Just win the lottery.
Easy.

On, to the next problem.

Create a gofundme campaign.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

He did say he would work on a farm, that is harder work than any other job you could possibly get.

Work on a farm when its 90 degrees out and your bailing straw, or be on a farm when it is -20 out and you have to keep things from freezing and breaking and still feed the cows.

Let the church fund your Mission trip?

Or are we talking about a workation with emphasis on free time?

Get a jobs with no entry barrier like security or waiter etc and save that money.

Vietnam is also quite cheap - so you do not need much money.

Sell your video game collection :P

Or maybe make a $30 gift hamper, with 50 raffle tickets. Then sell them for $2 each. That's $70 profit.

Do you have a plan of estimated costs? Ho much do you need?

Lol, I have two jobs, but they really want this to be a fundraiser. I suggested to them that I pay by myself because I felt bad, but they're mission is also to get other people involved through charity. I don't mind, I know I borrowed my brother money and instead of paying me he can donate it to this. Same with Christmas, anyone can donate it, I wouldn't mind.

I was looking into this. I don't know what I can offer in return of people wanting to fund this.

Yes, around $3,500 (give or take if other gals/guys going with contribute more or less than their amount). That is paying for a ticket there-back and people leading the mission. I've already put in $250 as a mandatory amount, then my brother should pitch in around 270, maybe some Christmas donations, birthday, and anything I can't fundraise I will pay for.

My friend has actually been in Vietnam/Thailand for months, and she earned that money by working her ass off as a waiter at J. Alexander's for a couple months. Usually the fancy restaurants actually have a fairly difficult exam to pass, but once you do you can make a ton of money in a short period of time if you're willing to put in the work.

That worked for her, at least, and once you get there social media and various apps have made it very easy to live extremely frugally staying at hostels that you know are safe and friendly in advance.
