Forums - Gaming Discussion - Housemarque moving on to less niche genres

Pretty sad sad to see. How little must these games be selling to force them into bigger genres? They surely can't have big budgets.

Lock if old.

That sucks : ( I'm going to get Nex Machina soon too !

They are a gameplay focused team... I think they can embrace bigger genres and still retain their identity.

They could make games like Vanquish. Honestly, when I originally saw matterfall thats what I was hoping it would be like.... then the game released and idk....

They’re not that small of a development team - over 50 employees.

Nex Machina sold less than 100,000 on PC and PS4. Matterfall was published by Sony so it hasn’t affected them as mich:

I've done my part in supporting them at least.

Damn that makes me a little sad :( Loved Outland by them last gen and Resogun + Alienation have been a blast this gen.

Small arcade type games.... yeah.... I can imagine that market is basically dead.

I think its good news theyre going to try something differnt.

Sony can pay them to make a bigger game hopefulky

Damn and I just bought Matterfall and plan to get Nex Machina soon.

Probably my favorite "small" dev. Usually buy their stuff immediately, but haven't purchased Matterfall yet. I have most of their games from the last decade. Think I'll pick up Alienation and/or Matterfall tonight. Hope their new direction is met with success.
