Forums - Sales Discussion - Amazon U.S. October bestsellers and general Amazon-based discussion

The PS4 is going to have a price cut soon, the question is whether that price cut will be solely for Black Friday - December or if they will do a dual drop as they have the last two years. Given how late it is already, I'm expecting them to wait for black Friday.

And yet they're sales are still up year on year and still beating all opponents globally on a regular basis and standing toe to toe with the Switch in the States.  And as someone already pointed out, PS4 charting positions here are not unusual for the time, the Switch is just way higher than is typical.

You people keep crying out that the market is saturated and it's too expensive but all actual evidence says otherwise.

Globally, they're fine. But they do need to be more competitive in Japan and the US, especially since it's going to be a while before the hot 2018 titles arrive. There's nothing wrong with wanting growth. You can't just rest on your laurels either. "Oh, we're still doing great in Europe, etc" really isn't a strategy. It may be toe to toe with Switch in the states now, but the Switch's trajectory is only going to go up. Especially once it starts getting a foothold and more third parties get tempted.

That's not to say Playstation is in any danger of being sunk, but you'd think they'd keep the momentum up in the face of competition.

At 60 million ps4s sold I really don't think Sony is in much danger. It's going to take years for with Switch or any Xbox One console or combination of to reach ps4s growing numbers. That's not to say Sony devs should hold back Software. Especially to appeal more towards Japan. Europe is more less owned and North America is split. But I think this is where we lose that generation focus that Microsoft mentioned. Currently with system launches are staggered. Sony is not losing any money to Nintendo or Microsoft when they sell their console. They would however if they stopped making exclusives and lose the unique part of PlayStation that is appealing.

So far not much more Switch stock as we can see from Japan sales.
Probably less than 350k for October. Will be enough to be the best selling console, tho.

I said this a while back and I was laughed at. PS4 has reached its market cap. The PRO could have helped but the half-step did nothing to draw in gamers.

What reality to you live it? If THREE PS4 Pros in the top 100 (highest at 47/ higher price) is doing NOTHING to draw in gamers, what is having ONE XB1 in the top 100 (at 62/ lower price)? You are definitely Crapgamer.

The PRO is doing ok but nothing to write about. All I am saying is that all consoles sooner or later reach market saturation (most if not all its target market has bought one). The PRO should have increased sonys sales even further but that did not happen because people saw the PRO as nothing but a PS VR machine. My prediction is the xbox one x will help increase Microsofts market share (something the PRO should have done for Sony).

You're are incredibly...well um yeah, or exceptionally delusional.

Or I'm just wrong and this your attempt at comedy.

The Pro was introduced to help 'maintain' a decent market share, which it has. Only those people who wished to separate the PS4 and the Pro considered it inaffective. PS4 sales WERE maintained and are still doing well. Part of that is to do with the Pro.

On the other hand, MS are doing badly in comparison to Sony and NEED the X1X to 'boost' sales because trying to 'maintain' (like the Pro) wouldn't move the needle a jot.

Bottom line:

Pro (in conjunction with the PS4) was released to 'maintain' sales of PS4
X1X (in conjunction with the XB1) is designed to 'boost' sales of XB1

The PS Pro has succeeded in doing exactly what it set out to do. Now we wait to see if the X1X will succeed in doing what it set out to do.

And on another note: Please maintain the format I've created because it tripples the work for other people who will likely carry on updating numbers during and AFTER you decide to give up. If you don't, I will simply quote my last numbers and update those rather than mess about trying to alter your format.

To do this simply cut from the main page and then switch to Rich Text to paste.

All the XB1X will do is increase the amount of money spent per active user. Much of its sales will come from people who already owned an XB1, so it is unlikely that it will grow the userbase by a significant amount. Mat Piscatella has said that new consumers who are planning to buy a console are more worried about price than anything else. A $500 console will definitely not appeal to that audience, so the XB1X won't be grabbing a lot of new customers.

I just realized that the Limited Edition CoD WWII bundle is $50 cheaper than the Limited Edition Battlefront 2 bundle, which also means the LE CoD bundle is the same price as the standard Battlefront 2 bundle. I wonder what's the logic behind that, normally you'd expect the Limited Edition bundles to be the same price with the standard bundle being $50 cheaper.
