Forums - Nintendo Discussion - L.A. Noire will cost more on Switch than Ps4 and Xbox One

Also consider this: the PS3 used more expensive physical media AND was a gigantic pain in the ass to develop for and yet price parity was never, to my knowledge, an issue. So why now? Why now is it an issue? Could it be because developers didn't feel they could get away with it on PS3 and now feel they can on Switch? Of course not, these companies are run by saints.

Is there any MSRP confirmed for now or is that purely based on a retailer listing ?

And the switch version will most likely look like the ps3 version which i got for $5 on psn. $50 is too much for a 7 year old game

That price difference is crazy. No way can a change in medium alone result in such a significant price change. There was a conscious choice somewhere along the line to gouge customers with this. Could have been to make the financial risks lower for Rockstar, or maybe Nintendo were being jerks and charging a significant premium on the cartridges, which got Rockstar upset. Or maybe it's just to maximise profits and there's nothing more complex behind it lol.

Very doubtfull it has anything to do with the cartridges. It's most likely due to different kind of deals/distribution policies with retailers.

While I might be inclined to agree with you there, I feel like we're in the minority. Just look at how well the 24 year old Street Fighter 2 for $40 sold on Switch.

Well, I was one of those Street Fighter fanatics who gave in and got it

I would have waited if I were you, probably won't be long before you can get it for like $20, most likely during a Black Friday sale later this year. Buy hey, if you enjoyed it and felt like it was worth the $40, that's ok too. To each their own I say.

I know I will pay the $40 the XB1 version of LA Noire if it is an actual remaster and not just a lazy port of the PC ultra assets.

I guess it was the launch slump that they talk about, you buy games you wouldn't normally buy or that you wouldn't normally get at full price because you want some games to try out the new console, but there aren't that many and they haven't been discounted yet.

The OP of the other thread about this game says that the Switch version will have some additional features. If that is accurate, then I can see a possile justification of a higher price.

That being said, it's not a straight port of the PS3 version, the Switch version does have new features such as motion controls, contextual touch controls, and 2 new points of view (wide and over the shoulder).

$40 for street fighter 2 was way overpriced. I wouldnt buy it for $20. And the new little features for la noire still shouldnt cost $50

Maybe, but I just find it hard to believe that 16gb cartridges could possibly cost a full ten euros more to manufacture that Bluray disks.

Don't forget that third parties don't get all that $10 back. 30 percent still goes to Nintendo. So were looking at $7ish. And the cartridge is probably like 2 dollars(just making a number up). So in theory they are making $5 or so extra profit on switch.

In percentages that $10 extra only adds $4.50 to the publisher. Actually it's not $10 extra as Europe includes tax, which is currently 21.4%, so it's only $3.70 more for the publisher. Making a mrom template is very expensive so there are higher base costs next to higher production costs. If they don't expect to sell all that many then those base costs need to be shared over fewer sales.

Small extra costs at the manufacturing phase quickly escalate at the retail end, hence the effort to save as many pennies as possible at the production stage.
