Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Skyrim Switch - Docked Gameplay (Off - Screen)

Whaddaya think the resolution's going to be docked? Would be great if they manage a fixed 1080p somehow, but I'm leaning towards dynamic res between 720p and 900p, maybe up to 1080p like Splatoon 2 but doubt that it would hit that target often if it did.

This looks like it's above 720p, it looks pretty good.

It looks like an old game running on a handleheld.

Maybe if it was fallout 3/New Vegas, i'd be less cynical. I never got fully on born with skyrim.

It looks ok but comparing it to xbox 360 it looks about the same and I'm also unsure if this is running on a development Nintendo Switch which has higher cpu and gpu performance. Thinking about ps4 software that looked great on development hardware but dropped a bit for retail I wonder if the same is true here. Thanks to Capcom the Nintendo Switch has the same 4GB memory in both retail and development Switches but both cpu and gpu are faster in development Switch's to give them some headroom for development software in the background etc. Correct me if I'm wrong but the retail Switch has 3x 1ghz Arm CPU's but development kits have 3 x 2ghz and may even be able to utilise some of the 4th Arm processor. Smaller difference for the gpu. Something like 768mhz vs 1ghz.

Also frame rate or panning looked a bit choppy but this could be more about the synchronisation between the TV we are looking at and the video camera. It certainly didn't look a high frame rate though.

Generally though looks like a nice playable version of the game but it will be interesting to see how the retail version stacks up against the older generation consoles and the ps4, pc and xbox one.

One thing it certainly looks a lot better than running it on my Linx Vision gaming tablet, both visually and frame rate. Which is more like this;

Although I can get over 5hrs I think of playtime and the game still plays great even if it looks a bit naff. It's clear the Switch is presenting the game at a much higher level.

It does seem amazing that a game like Skyrim can be done to a decent level on a handheld console. I know its an old game now but it still was hugely ambitious for its time which was only a few years ago.

One of my favourite games and still finding new stuff in it even to this day that I hadn't come across before.

It looks good! Definitely the enhanced version and it looks over 720p to me. You might be right about dynamic resolution or 900p.

Looks like I should be good to purchase this version. I always felt like a tool after i found out my Dad (late 50's) had this game and I didn't. Typically he would only play games in the Zelda series often buying a console for nothing but that.

It's looking so far to be the best portable version of Skyrim out there, if not for the form factor alone. I think it was running on retali machines at least undocked (as far as I can recall from the DF video), and it also seems to be based off the Special Edition (better lighting, water, foliage etc.) but on lower settings, at least that's what I could gather from the previous footage and the new one. Here's a comparison on NeoGAF for reference; http://neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?s=aabc048091b0f29220fb384b2bdf0256&p=246823940&postcount=202

You sure about that?

There's been several comparisons between Switch/PS360/PS4Xbox and it's definately based on the special edition.

Glad to see it is the special edition released on PS4 and X1. Now I might actually buy it.

To my untrained eye, the extra ferns and stuff seem to mark it as based on the special edition rather than the 360/PS3 version, though it probably has some cutbacks compared to the PS4 version.
