Forums - Movies & TV - Star Trek: Discovery - Official Trailer [NEW Comic-Con]

I will have to disagree with the majority, I think this looks pretty bad. No charm whatsoever. Taking itself a little too seriously. Casting seems a bit off too, that girl from the Walking Dead I've never found particularly convincing, particularly now as a lead.

Maybe I'll be mistaken but this looks incredibly one note and serious, even compared with the newer films

Looks just as bad as the first trailer they released for it, sigh. It pains me that this is a prime universe show, because it looks like it belongs in the JJ verse. What the actual f*ck were they thinking when they made this series? Did they really think core Trekkies would be ok with a Klingon redesign, an inconsistent design language for ship interiors and uniforms compared to the other prime universe shows, and a plotline focused primarily on war instead of exploration? Neither CBS nor Paramount seems to have any clue what Trekkies want nowadays, and that makes me a sad panda The fact that The Orville, a Star Trek spoof show, and Prelude to Axanar, a low budget fan film, both look better than the actual new Star Trek show, smh.

those producing Star Trek seem entirely oblivious of why the original series and earlier films are regarding so well.... Star Trek is supposed to be somewhat fun and whacky, but these days they're always trying to be so 'cool' and serious with things. ugh.

Fuck everything I just saw. It's not Star Trek. Like JJ shit, just generic Sci Fi. Rainn Wilson as Mudd is just doing a cliche twisted evil thing. That's not the character also he should not even be in a prequel. Not paying CBS for this garbage and it's going to fail and it deserves to. Fuck this shit. Now I wish I was a Star Wars fan as at least they are getting good films and such that respect the franchise.

Both videos are not available in my country. Oh well, I just started watching DS9 again, 175 episodes or so to go, I'm good for the rest of the year. I wouldn't mind some exploration sci-fi though.

When that happens change "tube" for "pak" in the url like this:

Thanks. Doesn't look very interesting but maybe it will grow into something. I dismissed Enterprise when it was aired, after recently watching the entire series on Netflix I was wrong. As any star trek series it starts of rather uncomfortable but when it gets going it gets pretty good. Except the last season where I guess they knew the writing was on the wall. Messy bunch of bottom of the barrel ideas. Plus the constant bashing of the Vulcans and humanity's superior qualities over all other species got old.

I kind of never got into Star Trek cause you know, i'm not an old fart and I wouldn't even know where to watch the entire series. But this looks pretty boring compared to what I saw of the OG.

Netflix has all the series (in Canada anyway) I hope they'll do something with the Discovery subtitle, and not just war stuff. Season 3 of Enterprise is a great balance between an ongoing imminent threat with still time for exploration and meeting new species. Now I wonder how DS9 will turn out as I only watched it sporadically when it aired. It's a bit of an adjustment to go back to SD squaro vision snail pace storytelling, yet fine for old farts like me :p

Do you two expect a war time period in Star Trek history when the Federation was losing badly to be all fun and games?

I'd start with the TOS cast films and work your way to TNG. Then DS9. Voyager is hit and miss. It has some great episodes but some real bad stuff as well. Janeway is phsycotic but bad writing and the only shwo in all of Star Trek to have an episode removed from cannon. Threshold. Skip that entirely unless you want to see something so bad even the cast and writers renounced it and offically removed from the ST universe. Enterprise is alright seasons 1-2. Season 3 is what sealed the series fate. 4 is fantastic because Manny Coto took over. Now some will notice I skipped TOS. TOS is so campy and dated I dunno if someone new to it would like it. TNG IMO is the best Star Trek. DS9 is a terrible Star Trek but a fantastic Sci Fi show. The downside to TNG & DS9 is the first 2 seasons are a bit lul. Both pick up at 3. From there you can work on the TNG films and First Contact is the best of all of them. Star Trek even when it got action heavy..still had a message for humanity disguised underneath. TNG was tackling issues of transgender in the early 90s. TOS (The Original Series) had TV's first interacial kiss. JJ Trek isn't really Star trek but Sci Fi films with the Trek name. Anyway in my rambling I hope I helped.

DS9 even had humor in war. Axanar looked 10X better than Discovery. Even bringing in veteran Star Trek actors. We only got a taste of what could have been but CBS who before allowed fans to make these projects for years and even encouraged it..suddenly had a change of heart and cancelled Star Trek Phase II (not the 70s one but fan version) & Axanar.

It is very interesting that you brought up Axanar, I know some other fans that disapproves of Axanar with the same criticisms that you and others here have against Discovery lol.

I just don't get it. lmao

Almost every ST fan I have seen and talke dto were excited for Axanar because we hoped Enterprise would be. Axanar got trek, got the canon got the right actors. Just about every Trek fan I have seen and talked to has hated STD (HA!) because it seems more of the same JJ did. I mean already they messed it up bring Prime with it being 10 years before Kirk. It screws with the timeline and the uniforms are wrong. They are all wearing the Delta. The Delta didn't become the unified symbol until after TOS.
