On other side of that coin, they can mislead people with their ideas because they're backed up by influence/popularity and not by their soundness of their opinions/arguements. If they present an informative opinion on something, by all means have at it but if it's half-baked hyperbole, they should just keep their mouth shut. If they say something dumb or not well thought-out, they're taking a chance, it could ruin their career by drastically altering their fans' perception of them.

Yet Trump became president. If he can say what he wants, then everyone else should be able to say what they want.

Not one person is saying that the can't say anything but it also completely fine to say that they shouldn't say anything. Everyone filters their thoughts before they speak. Being celebrities or public figures, what they say or do has repercussions on their careers especially if it doesn't pertain to their career. Shia Labeouf is an actor and people pay to see him act. No one pays to hear about his political opinions but he's a person with his own mind and voice. He's welcome to say what he wants. The real question is should he really say what he wants especially if it makes him look like a crazy person who's on some really good shit? He probably should put a bit more thought into what he says or does.

Could, or should is two different things entirely. Everybody has an opinion. If actors and celebs have an opinion they want to share, they should, they're human. They have as much right to free speech as anyone, as much as everyone else has a right to disagree. Many celebs choose to be politically active and become philanthropists, or choose to shed light on a cause. If you disagree, you have a choice not to support their work. Shia being a ranting douche in public while under the influence is a different point, really. That's celebs thinking they're above the law, not expressing free opinion.

That why I said could and should in that way. Of course, everyone has an opinion but not many people give two fucks about hearing all of it. Yes, people have a right to free speech in america for now but doesn't mean everyone should say their opinion on every topic every fucking chance they get. I don't give a rat's ass about what madonna or shia thinks on anything outside of their careers. As I said, they're gambling their reputation and career on the things they say or do but they are than welcome to say or do what they want.
