Forums - General Discussion - Should we seriously consider buying VGC?

I meant in terms of supporting it rather than buying it, buying means we'd have a whole lot of mess to deal with.

Imagine if we all pitched in to buy out VGC, who would be in charge, how would you go about splitting site ownership among many on here that were to pitch in to the buyout?. It honestly sounds like a complciated mess that could turn ugly within a matter of weeks/months if you ask me. Patreon allows to pitch in for site funding, which in turn could go towards site improvements or hiring a person to redesign the site (since we perma'd the last site designer).

Who was the last site designer? I don't recall anyone important getting permabanned.

You underestimate the worth of this site. The site itself would be more then $1m, but that is without accounting for potential ad revenue in the future. And it might be discounting the sister sites.

VgChartz is minisculue compared to Gaf, but almost all other similar sites are miniscule compared to VgChartz.

Are you talking about sales sites in particular?

Yes video game sales sites that discuss stuff like NPD, GFK, Mediacreate.

How did you find out the value of VGC?

I don't think it is accurate, but you get a good baseline of what to expect.

Or we could just donate money every year to make it ad free. How much does ioi make in a year off ads?

Didn't some users break off a couple years ago to make their own site?

If I get into the buying team, you guys will see much more ads. I want the ad revenue.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

I only come here on my laptop and there are zero... I repeat, ZERO ads. It's smooth, responsive and truly wonderful to navigate. You guys just need to use a real computer and stop trying to view it on your smart phones.

That seems kind of crazy high. Hard to imagine VGC's ads are that profitable :O

I agree, but it still within similar ballpark. And it is all revenue, who knows how much the site cost to maintain.

I don't use adblock because if we all did the site would shut down.

You're such a hero.

Why buy it when you can make your own, all you really need to do is pull numbers out of your backside and slap as many ads as you can on the page, and forget mobile browsers exist, then poof, you got your own vgc.

Bonus points if you abandon it almost entirely and only give it attention when your AdSense payments are lower than usual.

This was literally the funniest thing I've read on this site in months.

There's always the supporter program. It disables ads completely: http://www.vgchartz.com/supporters.php

And yet. Solves nothing for the root cause.

Blocking the adverts is free and is accessible to everyone.

I would be more than happy to be a supporter. But not if the rest of the community continues suffers at the hands of an abusive advertising regime.
