Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Reggie talks further about lack of save management on Switch

Why don't they just do cloud saves? That way we don't need to worry about corrupted saves from SD cards exploiting the system

Because they need to do it in a way that makes sense to the consumers obviously....🙄

I think all of this is really just a "Cloud saves are coming but since its part of our 2018 subscription service, I can't talk about it right now" type of deflection.

Sales only indicate that purchases like the features of the system. You think that means its perfect?

No, I think it means that it doesn't matter to most people.

oh ok, so its the tyranny of the majority now. They tried that in Germany, and it turned out great right? Oh...It didnt.

I mean this is just seriously such a non problem. The percentage of people who are suddenly going to have their Switch explode and lose their saves is just marginal. It happened to people for decades at times with memory cards, and people survived.

Gamers seem to need their hands held. Sure, it would suck if you sunk 100 hours into a game and lost it, but let's be frank- once most players invest massive amounts of time into a game and beat it... they don't go back to it.

for most people this will never be a problem and they will never lose their saves as long as the saves are on the harddrive of the system

To quote Bill Burr: "Ooooh geeeze". It's not a non-problem, and the justification you're giving for the absence of save manangement is sketchy. Just off the top my head. I lost a massive amount of data in Oblivion, and Marvel Ultimate Alliance on the XB360 in one fell swoop. I had spent almost 400 hours in Oblivion ( yeah I loved it ) and continued to plumb it's depths even though I had obviously already finished it, and lost about 20-30 hours in MUA. It had something to do with clearing my cache, to the best of my memory of a decade old event, although none of my other games were affected. I was not happy. I also lost 44 hours of Demon's Souls data due to a power surge. I was so pissed off, I didn't start over until 2 years later. Most recently, I had a 32gb Vita memory card die on me. The cost of lost time and effort incurred? Nothing.  All my saves were backed up on Sony's servers. If I wanted to do so, saving to a personal physical medium was also possible. Essentially, Nintendo is asking me to go take a dump in the woods when I have a perfectly good, working toilet already. It's the same thing with their voice chat (cough*) solution. It should be onboard. Part of the system. I can point my face at my Vita, sounds come out, people hear me, I hear them. Right through the speakers on the system, or headphones. Their online features and services are so far behind, and even removing the "online" aspect of the equation, save backups of some kind should be possible. The voice chat thing I find especially irksome, because I can't fathom why it shouldn't be at least an option to use the system itself without an app/phone. TBH I actually forgot about the save managment thing until today.

How can I not, when you're displaying the same lack of regard for the minority around you. You completely disregarded the minority (according to you) of us that think it's an important feature with a remarkable lack of empathy towards us.

It's comforting that they know of these things and are talking about it. Keep the pressure on but we will get many of these things during the next year. I like that he is already mentioning wants for multiple Switches on one account. I plan on picking a second one up for LAN play eventually.

No, I think it means that it doesn't matter to most people.

It can also be that most people when buying the switch where attracted by the games and the two consoles in one concept and then found that the save situation was problematic , this is pretty much the same situation we have seen on rival consoles in regards to missing features.

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

Please explain to me what does customer preference have to do with German Nazi... unless you think you should have the power to force features you want on other people choice?
