Forums - Sales Discussion - Sony: 60.4 million sold through to consumer (ps4)

Impressive. It looks like PS4 market is quite independent from Switch one and they compete directly only for shelf space in brick and mortar stores.

It launched later in Japan.  A little over 3 months. And there were smaller countries that came months later.

Of course, that isn't the main point.  The point is you are dealing in hypotheticals aligning each region.  A hypothetical that is also an impossibility.  The PS2 was staggered because there wouldn't be enough stock to launch in every country.  The parts weren't off the shelf and therefore not readily available.  That's the problem with going with all custom HW.

Sure, if Sony launched the PS2 in most countries at launch, they MAY have had an additional 2M sales in the first month, but they'd also be experiencing what Nintendo is right now, which equals fewer sales the months/year after.  It would have equalised itself out before this point in time.

You have to use logic, not come from a mindset of trying to downplay the PS4. Or listen to someone who has that mindset. The PS4 is still beating the PS2, period.  This is also a system that had the best Q4 for a PS console. Yes, including the PS2.

When did I mention hypotheticals? It seems to me like your mindset is caught up in your own web since you are unable to accept any additional information. The fact PS2 is beating the PS4 in almost every individual region isn't a hypothetical, it is a fact you and others are clearly not able to accept. I'm not sitting here telling you that if PS2 launched WW then it MAY outsell PS4, and stop comparing the PS2 to the Switch lol, the Switch is having much different troubles from third party parts suppliers than PS2 ever experienced. The more you know.

I have to use logic? Do you not realize that I have agreed with your side of the story that PS4 has outsold the PS2 from date to date, the only difference is I am recognizing the additional information at play. You and others are the ones purposely not accepting additional FACTUAL information. So no, I'm not coming from the mindset of '"trying to downplay the PS4", it is you being illogical not accepting any additional information that may hurt the PS4. You have to be more open minded because the brain has this funny phenomenon about it, I'm sure you've heard.

60.4 and it hasn't even hit its stride. $199.99 this holiday, $149.99 holiday 2018, and a $99.99 digital only edition in 2019, and PS4 will easily sell 20+ million the next 3 years.

As VR picks up, OTT TV becomes the standard for live TV, the OS continues to expand, and AAA 1st party titles keep dropping every few months, PS4 will continue to maintain huge sales momentum. If Sony introduces more form factors in 2018/2019, it could go as high as 30 Million units at some point.

This is going to end up being the biggest platform Sony has ever had. PS4 is built on a much more versatile business model. They can go cheaper, they can expand to new form factors, and they can land more software than any PlayStation to date. PS4 offers more ways to play, to a wider audience than any PlayStation before it, and that will lead to it being the biggest selling PlayStation of all time. At least until PS5 expands the market even more.

It's going to be such an enjoyable next few years watching it sell bucketloads.

That was my meaning behind those numbers. I think we will see the price go down to $249.99 permanently around Septemeber or October, with $199.99 for Black Friday Week, and two weeks in December. I think we will see $199.99 fall 2018 with $149.99 holiday drops. Then We will get a PS4 Super Slim/Digital only in 2019 at $149.99, with holiday deals at $99.99. I think $99.99 will be the become the permanent price in holiday 2020, and that will be the lowest it goes, any lower will only be sales.

PlayStation is Sony's cash cow. PS4 is the gateway to PS Store, and PS Services. Sony is going to try and get the price as low as possible, to get as many people as possible on PSN. That is why PS4 will support it well after PS5 launches, and PS4 will surpass PS2 when it is all said and done.

It could play out like that, even if slightly optimistic :)

I atleast think 199$ happens this holidays (temp price) (they have a CUH-21xx, thats yet again cheaper to make than last models).

Hope they do a die shrink again, and offer a super slim again at some point.

A digital only console would hardly sell because most PS4 owners buy games at retail. It would be PSP Go levels of stupid.

Why do people think a $99 PS4 is possible?

I have a very hard time seeing it ever getting that low.

I can see too a 199$ PS4 Slim for Black Friday and Christmas.
