Forums - Politics Discussion - Is Terrorism eventually going to be what bans Religion in the Western World?

You think any push back to people who are ready to die for their beliefs are going to be okay with you eradicating their beliefs? Really, religion isn't the issue - not singularly. It's a different kind of insane than terrorist insane. The problem is when those two crazies merge it's like gasoline and fire.

The solution to end terrorism is the same way to end any "ism" - get rid of the people who engage in it. It'll never happen.

"You should be banned. Youre clearly flaming the president and even his brother who you know nothing about. Dont be such a partisan hack"

It would be good. But it will never happen, no matter how many people the muslims will kill...

I hope not. If religion -any traditional religion- is to go, which I hope it eventually happens, it should be because people grow out of it and realize how unnecesary, trivial and harming it is. It has to be a cultural direction. Its a step the population has to take, not something you impose. Imposing only leads to resistance and people pushing back.

The most thing it's likely to destroy is privacy and freedom of speech.

I hope nothing like this happens. Even if you start enforcing such measures all it would do is drive more people insane and give terrorists propaganda to work with thus creating more terrorists. Any such extreme measure might even cause civil war or revolution to happen. All the previous revolutions occurred when the ruling parties tryed to enforce something too much on the citizens.

And this is going to stop terrorism how? Nah, more likely this is going to be the end of internet as we know it instead. No one is going to touch religion.

No. Religious institutions are pretty adept at deflecting criticism, and religious followers are equally adept at looking the other way.

The only thing that will end religion is the spread of information and training children to think critically.

I don't think religion needs to be banned... just have it's protections taken away.

Not as if either one would necessarily stop terrorism though. I mean, in an ideal world if you banned islam then all the muslims would just be like "well I simply won't go to that country then" and thus you get no muslim terrorists there either. But it just wouldn't work like that...

Agreed, the power of belief is a strong one, and we need to be able to openly acknowledge that certainly beliefs are dangerous. They can't all be treated equally just because they're part of some religion or other, and religion is untouchable. It's important to criticize bad ideas and beliefs across the board, regardless of whether they're rooted in theism or otherwise.

Ban religion, please!

No western region no matter how secular would allow such a thing, heck sadly that sort of nonsense view that it is even possible to do so is what gets extremist zealots and fake zealots using religion for power over ignorant believers in seats of power to begin with.

Look at any former soviet state and how that helped. Churches got burned, my grand grandfathers were all pastors and they got killed but still kept the faith. Well until now, I'm a traitor.
