Sounds pretty cool, a shame it didn't happen.

[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]

This was the 1st time I ever heard of this. I'm sad this never came to be. I would have loved playing a new kind of FE. I love the current formula, but trying out new ideas is also pretty cool.

As the comments say...why don't they explain why Sticker Star and Color Splash suck so bad?

Edit: Oh yeah....Miyamoto. Hopefully we get a REAL paper mario on Switch but I digress, I'm kinda relieved this game didn't come to fruition. Who knows what fate the series would have faced if it had released and flopped...or released and possibly succeeded.

So tl;dw:

Cause RTS gameplay on consoles is mediocre at best, usually terrible, especially when precision is needed.

Now more RPG elements like field exploration and towns?  Yes, yes, all my YES!

Color Splash apparently was better received than Sticker Star, in fact considered a good game than some expected.

Yeah, I've played it. It's better than SS but a far cry from the first 2 games. The battle system and story/characters/character development...things that really matter in JRPGS, suck. If they could make a game that looks like Color Splash and plays like TTYD, I'd be all over that.

I love Fire Emblem, but I can't really imagine this working well. Even if it takes place in a war setting, I've always loved the focus on individual units, how they grow, and how they bond with the rest of the army. I don't know how this game would have turned out, but controlling massive armies of (I assume mostly) faceless soldiers, and resigning myself to losing many of these units during massive battles, just would feel like something far from what Fire Emblem really is. Without the impact of perma-death (or simply losing them for the rest of the fight, for more casual players), would make this feel like a new IP with a Fire Emblem coat of paint. And at that point...why not just make a new IP?

This, except for Pikmin. Although with the Wiimote controls and maybe a focus on action, I don't think it would be too bad. I really liked Battalion Wars 2 on the Wii.
