Forums - Nintendo Discussion - When Will We Get a Joy Con With A Real D-Pad?

I need it Nintendo!

I can't play these with the analog stick or 4 directional buttons, and I'm not keen on carrying a fat Pro Controller outside of the house. Lets do it Nintendo!

I kinda doubt that a tiny tiny d-pad would be much better than a tiny tiny analog stick.

If you look at where the directional buttons on the Switch are now, there's a good amount of space there for a decent d-pad. Bigger than the 3DS.

It could be slightly wider than the Vita d-pad which is more than usable.

Never. And it's fine.

In Joycon mode, they want to have the same layout. I've only played Zelda, Fast, and Snipperclips but the "d-pad" felt perfectly fine.

As an optional accessorie though who really does it hurt. It would give Nintendo extra money. And the left joy-con is cheaper to make because it doesn't have the IR camera or NFC reader.

Make it, let people buy it as an option. It's easier to carry an extra Joycon outside of the house than it is to carry around the Pro Controller.

10 years ago I also thought that there are games unplaybale with an analog stick. Then came the Xbox 360 with a D-Pad so astonishingly shitty that it wasn't good for anything. Because if that, I learned to play Street Fighter and 2D-Platformers with an anlog stick. I still prefer D-Pads, but I don't have a problem when there is none. So thanks Microsoft for that shitty D-Pad! Or something...

Funnily enough, the Xbox One S Controller has one of the best D-Pads ever. How times change...

Official member of VGC's Nintendo family, approved by the one and only RolStoppable. I feel honored.

Wouldn't it be an issue if it is being used as a standalone controller?

No, leave it original. No one would buy another Joy-Con L for just plus d-pad for 50 bucks.

Hopefully we'll get a piece of plastic circle/plus d-pad from aftermarket, especially people already made their own 3D print circle/plus d-pad.

I've found the 4 buttons work surprisingly well

Never, that is how they sell the $70 pro controller.

I got a Switch and (finally) a pro controller. I need to get a fighting game to test out the dpad and the buttons to see which I'd prefer. I haven't really put either through their paces.

I have to say, the Pro had improved my performance in Fast RMX but my daughter still prefers the Joycons/Grip for Zelda. I jump back and forth without issue, though.
