Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Only Minecraft and Street Fighter for May? Can Switch sell well this month?

Switch will be ok?

Switch will win May NPD 227 54.57%

Nintendo will drop Switch 30 7.21%

Wii U shall rise and take the throne 79 18.99%

See results 80 19.23%

Total:416

I'm sure it'll be fine, considering it seems to still be supply constrained. Might hit a small lull, but nothing substantial

I've had my Switch since launch night, and I still have yet to beat Zelda, and just started Binding of Isaac (thanks to my 45+ hrs of Has Been Heroes).  I also have plenty of Fast RMX to play. I'll have Mario Kart to run me through the end of April and probably all of May. Since it comes out towards the end of April, it can almost be considered a May game. And then there's still Minecraft, and I'm not even getting Street Fighter. I might also still get Setsuna. So on the software front, I wouldn't think there should be a significant drought for most.

We also get a few high profile indie games in NBA Playgrounds and Thumper together with another one in Tumbleseed.

Dont forget, new releasedates show up every week. We're getting more games.

But most importantly will be MK8 obviously.

MK8D and Minecraft will keep momentum up for May tbh, the thing about Switch is that what's selling it is the hybrid nature of the platform as people have never been accustomed to playing games on the scale of BOTW on the go. The form factor of the platform itself is what's attracting people.

Mario Kart 8 is basically May too, it's right at the end of April.

Switch will do fine. There's a good flow of digital content for the machine too, seems like a couple new games every week now.

Nintendo's summer in general is real solid IMO.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Minecraft, Ultra Street Fighter II, NBA Playgrounds, ARMS, Sine Mora EX, Splatoon 2 and others.

Those who really wanted it already bought it years ago.

Prove it!

I bought it years ago, and I'm buying it again. Double dipping is what us Nintendo fans do

The eShop I have to say is making a big difference. There's just new content coming in every week and even it's not individually significant, it really adds up and makes the system feel like there's always incoming things to play.

Like I logged on this morning and was surprised to see Mr. Shifty already up for download just as I was downloading the Puyo Puyo demo.

It's still heavily supply constrained and under the traction of Zelda who has gainend a lot of word of mouth.

It will do well in April.

Yep GTA5 never got that memo either. I also believe MK8 and Minecraft are Gonna skip that class Too!

GTA5 was a system seller?

Guess we would have to go back and check Gta5 launch week on ps4/xbox one and check. I know I skipped gta5 on 360 and waited for it to launch on ps4, then bought a ps4 the day GTA5 came out so for me it was definitely.

Also my boy wants Minecraft on switch even though he has X1 edition Tablet edition, so guessing it will so ok amongst kids again, and I'm double dipping on MK8D just for 1080pand portability

I still can't see it giving a large boost to Switch hardware sales when it doesn't have the hype of being a new game behind it. People generally don't get as excited over years-old ports as they do over shiny new releases.

Its hard to talk about boost of Switch sales when they are still limited stocks in US and Japan, but in any case definatly will have good effect. Like I wrote, for all people who didnt had Wii U, this is brand new and offcourse great, strong game, and Nintendo will definatly push this game hard.

But that excitement, that hype that drives people to buy new hardware in large numbers, it's just not there for MK8 Deluxe because it isn't a new game.
