Forums - Sales Discussion - Global Hardware March 11th week 2017

Oh, wow. The Switch was adjusted up for March 4th by an even greater amount than it was adjusted down for March 11th. Now its launch week is over 1.4 million.

Damn, Sony knocked it out the park this gen with the PS4, the console slays all comers, must be so demoralizing for the competition.

Yeah Nintendo must be super demoralized with their best console launch ever and selling the same as ps4 on the 2nd week despite the heavy supply constrains.

No matter how heavy the supply constraints are.... the switch should and is expected to outsell everything whenever stock is available for at least the next couple of months.

It doesn't mean its doing great, doesn't mean its doing badly either.

For me, the switch numbers wouldn't mean anything until it either hits 10M or its pulling 200k+-300k weeklys when it become readily available or whichever happens first.

Meaning; sales attained regardless of supply constraints hit 10M (like the wii or PS4) or there are no more shortages and its still pulling 200k - 300k+ weeks which indicates real demand.

Long story short, its a launch console, how it performs now shouldn't be taken too seriously. Just look at the XB1, it was hot out the gates too just like the PS4 breaking xbox records left and right..... 3yrs later it still hasnt crossed the 30M mark.

I see PS4 back on top... lol i was not expecting to see that so soon.

It's important to remember that the Switch is pretty heavily supply limited. This early in a consoles life demand is going to be higher than supply for a while. The PS4 sold less than 100K units the week after it launched after all.

Edit: I also want to point out that it's far too early to tell how well the Switch is really going to do. We need to wait for it to reach a general baseline.

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

I dont get this supply argument, in NY where ever i go Switch is in stock......

New York must be a lucky anomaly then, as for online for the whole of the US;

Gamestop's sold out

Same with Best Buy

And Walmart

And all there is on Amazon are scalpers

Wtf, are those numbers in the front of page undertracked for switch? it shows 320k zelda NS sold and only 234k switches, that's a 136% attach rate lmao

Maybe some people bought a different game at launch and then went for Zelda in week 2? I mean, it's not like the game overall has a greater than 100% attach rate.

Except for in the US. But we already knew that from NPD.

Do you have proof of that? In Toronto, I have yet to come accross a store that has had it in stock (and you can check sites like Best Buy Canada, Walmart, The Source, and EB Games which report stock levels for products in store and online, and for Switch they are all sold out both online and in local stores). Moreover, I checked the US sites for Best Buy, Walmart, Toys R US, GameStop and none of them have it in stock online and when I changed my home store on Best Buy US to various New York locations (largely in the NYC area), they all reported that they were sold out in store (once again this is something you can check for yourself).

Horizon gave PS 4 a small boost

Well it probably did help to hold PS4's hardware numbers around 250k. With this rate the PS4 sells a million a month outside of the holiday season. Which by itself I'd pretty amazing. If it manages to sell 8 million by the time august ends it's going to be another great year for PS4.

The PS4 has never sold more than 7 million units through the end of August. Simply because sales slow down in the middle of the year.

Starting with Destiny 2 in September until the end of the year PS4 needs to have 4 Record breaking months otherwise i think it will be down overall from last year. But lets see.

I don't know about that. It's been really close so far. It was up in January (best January ever) but down in February (still 2nd best February). It will likely be down in March due to The Division launching last year, but beyond that I don't think there's any reason to believe it will be down for the rest of the year.

Especially with how strong the lineup is later this year.

Forget it. I'm seeing things.
