Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox Scorpio's Hype Justified by it's Hardware specs

Well I'm hyped.

But I am one of those customers always interested in new tech.

My PS4 Pro gets my $$ for juicy Sony Exclusives.

Nintendo gets my $$ for juicy Nintendo Exclusives.

Scorpio will get my $$ for all multiplats in 4K glory, not to mention glorious 4K improvements to a vast library of 360 and XBox One games.

Love it!

It's definitely a great piece of hardware. But what's the price? And what games does it have that I can't already play on the PS4 Pro? The thing is, PS4 Pro has the specs, the price and the games. It's quite hard to beat that and no Halo or Forza is enough to convince me.

I'm going to say no. I'm sure Xbox fans will be happy, but for the mainstream, I doubt the advantage it has over the Pro is going to warrant the $100-$150 price difference. Hell, if MS actually prices this at $499, like many expect, and Sony still decide to go super aggressive and drop the Pro to $299, that's a $200 difference. This thing will be done before it even begins. That's not even mentioning the beastly PS5 we'll start hearing about sometime next year.

Those people hoping for Ryzen CPU and a better GPU than first announced must be greatly disappointed. This thing is basically a PS4 Pro+. I'm guessing that's why they didn't make a big deal about announcing the specs themselves.

Seems you've either been completely ignoring MS's marketing and interviews for Scorpio or are just confused as to who these premium consoles are geared towards. The mainstream is irrelevant here. Just like the Pro, this is an enthusiasts console. The mainstream aren't supposed to have big interest in it. As Papa Phil said, the Xbone S is still the console they'll sell the most of. And why would Sony drop the Pro by $100? Or start leaking PS5 stuff already in 2018?

The way they announced the specs is exactly the way a hardcore gamers machine should be announced. No executive on stage throwing out numbers and design talk, no videos that don't show much of any difference and just confuses people. Give one of the most knowledgeable journalists in the industry access to your stuff and let him do his thing. Save the rest for a later date. Also, spec wise, it represents a pretty substantial boost over Pro. So nah, it's a bit more than a "Pro+", despite what some of the more imaginative people were hoping for. And specs don't even tell the whole story, the engineering here should make a large difference beyond what specs would show. You watched the DF video? He explains it very clearly. It's gonna be gud.

I work at Target and got PS4 Pro last November for $327 after discounts. The next day I got a 42" 4K TV for $180 on sale and after Discount. Pro is not justified at $400. Sony should have waited on PS5.

Scorpio is most powerful console yet, but I will not pay $500 even less with my discount. $400 I will which would be around $366 with my discount.

I cannot wait for E3 full Scorpio reveal, price, name, and games!

BTW I got Switch at Target on launch day for $276 and I am happy with IT. Nintendo has the lead and momentum.

If the Pro hits $299 this year, you can bet quite a bit more customers in the mainstream will be interested.  And sorry, but no, it basically is a Pro +.  It'll run the same multiplat games at a higher resolution.  There will also be games that will require checkerboarding to hit 4K, though.  And most of those games released on it will still be using the same models/geometry from the OG PS4/XBO counterparts.  The thing is still using Jaguar for goodness sake.  We'll have to wait til PS5 for a real leap.

The Pro will be a year old in Nov, it will be getting a price cut.  Sony may opt for just a $50 cut.  However, there is a real shot that they may go aggressive and release a Pro S (which has been rumored) at $299.  And who said Sony is going to be the one leaking PS5 info?  If the Scorpio had been more powerful than they may have been compelled to let a few nuggets drop here or there.  As it is, now, those leaks will just start to happen naturally.

So you're saying when prices drop, more people become interested? Wow, who knew. Of course, what that has to do with launch prices, is beyond me. The mainstream certainly weren't interested in the Pro at $400. Of course you knock $100 off, more will come around to it. Whatever price the Scorpio launches at, you knock $100 off, more will be enticed to buying it. But that doesn't fix the issue with your statement, that the mainstream won't be interested in a $500 launch price. Again, they aren't supposed to be. It isn't a mainstream console, just like the Pro wasn't at launch (or now).

Your theories on specs and performance are your opinions, but I'll trust Leadbetter over you, thanks :)

I believe PS4 Pro is unnecessary and Scorpio will be even further. Hasn't the PS4 Pro sales already proved that none of this matters?

PS4 Pro sales prove that the majority of gamers are fine with the OG PS4.  Especially when you can get one for ~$250 and the Pro is $150 more.  There is still ~10%-20% who are interested in getting a PS4 that are willing to spend more for the premium model.  You are right that sales to prove that it doesn't really matter, though.  The PS4 is a WW brand.  That means that many more countries are interested in the PS4, which correlates into more people being interested in an upgraded model.  With the Xbox being relevant in only a handful of countries, that means fewer will be interested in an upgraded XBO.  Even if it is more powerful than the Pro.  If this thing seriously comes out at $499, I don't think it's going to end well for the Scorpio.

The xbox brand is dead (in the competition agaisnt Sony and the Play Station Brand)
so who really cares besides our fellows murricans.

TV input still there makes me happy, but snap being gone still pisses me off! 😤

Xbone... the new "N" word   Apparently I troll MS now | Evidence | Evidence

I have a 720p TV and rarely watch movies. Not in this thing's market. Without a 4K TV it seems pointless.
