Forums - Sony Discussion - The Last of Us Part II’s Story Is “Going to be Amazing,” Says Naughty Dog President

In an interview with Game Informer, Naughty Dog President Evan Wells was asked what Uncharted: The Lost Legacy means for the future of the franchise:

We don’t plan that far ahead. Making a game is pretty tough so we’re laser-focused on just getting what we’re currently working on out the door.

We have wrapped up Nathan Drake’s story, for sure. We have a lot of ideas outside of the Uncharted universe, and we’re busy on The Last of Us 2 at the same time, so it’s not an experiment. We don’t have a grand plan to continue to do this serially, or create more side-stories of other characters.

Elsewhere in the interview, Wells addressed Naughty Dog’s plans to become a two-team studio back when they were working on the first The Last of Us. Because of how busy they were with game development at the time, “staffing two full teams was just impossible… so what we ended up with was about a team and a quarter, maybe a team and a third, depending on the time of the year.”

He continued:

We’ve now got the ability to sort of have a team that’s in production, and sort of a pre-production team. When one team ends, we’ve sort of laid the groundwork with what the next product is going to be, and then we can sort of roll people over. But we’ve certainly given up any dream or fantasy that we’d ever be able to fully accomplish the two full teams.

Wells then confirmed that The Lost Legacy team will eventually be absorbed into The Last of Us Part II, and there’s around 200 people working at Naughty Dog.

The Last of Us Part II is a ways off, but Wells said “it’s going to be a great game.” Wells also heard the story pitch from writer Neil Druckmann recently.

“It’s going to be amazing,” he said.

I have yet to play Uncharted 4, but, sure, ND is good, it will be great.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

lol I think it would be more noteworthy if he said it would be "pretty good, I dunno"

Bet you 4 Uncharteds that it won't be as good as the first one.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Everything will be booked of when this game comes out. EVERYTHING. Idgaf if I'm somehow getting married, if someone I know is getting married or a family member's god damn funeral. This is being played day one.

could be true

Until ND lie to me I'll take what the say as the truth.

Now, if Activision came out and said an Activision game was going to have an amazing story I'd roll my eyes say yeah right.

Oh good. I was worried the Naughty Dog president would think their next game has a lame story. I can now be at ease.

I'd hope so. I'd rather hope it'll be a good story.
