Forums - General Discussion - Canadians are outliving Americans with Cystic Fibrosis, in some cases, by as much as a decade

"When severity of disease, age and other variables were taken into account, Canadians had a 34% lower death rate than American patients overall.

US patients with private insurance had a similar life expectancy as their Canadian counterparts, whereas Canadians had a 44% lower death rate than Americans on Medicaid. The uninsured fared the worst - Canadians had a 77% lower death rate than Americans who had no insurance at all."

Food for thought with the healthcare debate in the US heating up again, Bernie is still leading the pack for a Canadian style healthcare system, but others are starting to join in the chorus

Even red states are expanding coverage and with a hearty dose of well intentioned gusto. No idea what the hell Don was on when he thought cutting it off was a bad idea. Republicans wanted to modify it, not shrink it.

I'm not sure I undertand your reasoning, wouldnt Canada's health system be scalable ?

In 2006, per-capita spending for health care in Canada was US$3,678; in the U.S. it's US$6,714. The U.S. spent 15.3% of GDP on healthcare in that year; Canada spent only 10.0%

The US is spending far more per-capita and has the resources, just look at the military budget, but the US still gets worse health outcomes

And that's not just limited to Canada vs USA either.

The USA spends roughly 2.5x the OECD average on Healthcare, yet it's health results rank lower.

The USA health system is slow, inefficient, ineffective and expensive.

I dont understand why everyone in the US looks at socialism (free education, healthcare) with such disdane.

It "seem's" to be the best solution so far, for health & education.

It also effects "happiness" levels, apparnetly that top10 happiest places in the world, they all have free education & healthcare systems.

Time for the US to change its healthcare system to ones like in europe.

Your link doesn't appear to be working.

I don't either. You don't even need socialized education and healthcare to get such improvements either, many countries go for a heavy mixed private/public system where they both compete with each other and still get great success.

Time for the USA to catch up with the rest of the developed world.

Well they don't have the death panels from Obamacare.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

HAHA MURICANS ARE FAT.

In reality probably more accessible healthcare.

According to many reports, the reason lies solely in the healthcare system. The USA has the most expensive healthcare system in the world but coverage and health insurance are on the level of a third world country, so people die because they cannot afford treatment.

In my mind Canada is full of beer, hockey, moose, free healthcare and maple syrup... no worries at all. It all sounds stress free and relaxing.

Probably because they are happier, that's what happens when you live in a civilized country
