Forums - Nintendo Discussion - GameStop: Nintendo Switch is Selling Out “Within Hours”; Demand “Incredibly Strong”

This is great but I must admit for me personally I'm not convinced I need a Switch currently for the simple reason there is not a single game I'd want to buy mainly due to lack of games but also some games are not at a price point I see as realistic for the content. Hopefully I'll get on board sometime later either this year or maybe next year. I still feel there will be a large drop in hardware sales maybe after 4 million are sold in the same way as wii u.

Maybe I'm feeling a bit Nintendo negative after watching this video.

Switch is very intresting console and has like launch game one of best games ever, true system seller and strongest launch game ever after Super Mario 64. It's very obvious that is huge difference with Switch compared to Wii U, going from system itself, marketing and massage, and huge system seller right on launch, Wii U failed on all those things.

Really, you feeling a bit negative about Nintendo after watching video called "Nintendo Sucks and The Switch is Trash!". :D

there was a large drop in hardware sales after 2 million for Wii U.

it sold 2 million in the first month and took a full year to hit 4 million.

Media is full of "Gamestop is doing so poorly, shops closeing this and that"
Meanwhile Gamestop PR "lets make lots of headlines! about ps4,xb1,switch" to distract from the fact we re in trouble.

It looks like it shot past 3 million easily and then it started braking but I accept it was already in trouble before 4 million looking at this.

I remember enjoying the wii u at launch and felt it had a good selection of titles but no stand out titles like ZBOTW but as you can imagine the new Zelda means little to me on Switch as I have it on wii u, nor do the wii u ports especially Splatoon that I don't like. I'm extremely interested in Mario Odyssey though.

that is shipments, not sell through.

Notice how terrible those Q1/Q2 2013 shipments are? Thats because they had so much excess stock at the end of 2012.

According to NPD+Media Create, there was over 500k units sitting on store shelves in America+Japan.

The region Nintendo labels Others was even worse, they had shipped 900k at the end of Dec 2012 and by Sept 2013 shipments had only grown to 1.01 million. Thats just over 100k in 9 months and they actually had negative shipments (retailers sending units back) over the summer. There had to have been a few 100k units on store shelves at the end of 2012.

So based on all that, we can conclude that sell through for Wii U at the end of 2012 was much closer to 2 million which lines up well with Vgchartz numbers of 2.17 million as of Dec 29, 2012.

What date does the NPD come out? We should probably know how well it is actually selling and what are the exact records it broke.

Wow it beat the ps4? Amazing.  Definitely  did not  expect  that!

2.1mill units ww first week is a lot,let alone touple it.

I'm not sure it was ever mention to have outsold the PS4 (I may be wrong about this). This news stories I've seen were always compared to Wii and 3DS which is still pretty good.

Wii U sales fell down over cliff right after launch in January. Wii U in next 6 months was sold only around 500k.

I hope this is because of a real demand and not the controlled understocking Nintendo has in place. Better have enough units by the time Splatoon 2 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe come out.

I hope you realize how little sense "planned understocking" makes at this point in a console's life.

They want absolutely as many systems out there as they possibly can.

The Canadian Gamestop owned store (Ebgames) is having a hard time keeping stock in my area. There's only two but they usually get 10-20 switches each per shipment and they are gone within the hour, whereas you could easily find a Wii U during launch month. Hopefully the trend continues.
