Resident Evil 7.

Best horror game ever made. 19 12.93%

One of the best. 64 43.54%

Amazing. 31 21.09%

Not good at all. 33 22.45%

I will admit that in VR, it's probably as scary as you claim, but that's more the technology. If some of these other horror games were in ultra realistic virtual reality, I'd easily call them scarier. In a way it's the scariest, but not because it deserves the title.

The Silent Hill series will probably blow this away the moment they make a virtual reality horror game. Those silly indie horror games with like one monster chasing you don't even really count. Things that rely entirely on jump scares are garbage.

For me nothing and I mean NOTHING will ever beat out Silent Hill 2. THAT is a freaking masterpiece and it desperately needs a PS4 remake!

I disagree completely; RE7 is nothing but hide and seek with jumpscares.

About 8hrs in and freaking loving it so far. As you said, feels very much resident evil, but very fresh and new at the same time. It's scary but it's also just so badass and confident with its delivery. I played the first resident evil on ps1. RE4 is one of my fav games of all time. RE5 disappointed but was still some fun, and I never bought RE6. RE7 is pretty much exactly what I was hoping for: back to RE's roots but also bringing something new and, to some degree, innovating. And it's damn scary.

Idt any RE fan will be disappointed.

Edit:  oh, and this is the game that will probably get me to buy a psvr.

No, it isnt. Theres too many cliches in it. Its too easy to read into it. I dunno, very average story. TBH I didnt feel very scared about it. I honestly feel its the lowest standard we should accept for horror games.

I see you also played Alien Isolation. Did you think it was more scary then that?.
And from what i seen of it i just hate the first person mode of the new Resi game. It doesnt even feel like Resident Evil imo but more like Outlast crossed with Texas Chansaw. Sure it scary, but it isnt Resi .

i actually felt more scared by it than Alien Isolations despite that Alien was harder, the sound director made it possible

It has to be the most intense horror game I've experienced (mostly due to vr). They need to make more games for psvr. I can imagine a 1st person Silent Hill setting a new standard for the horror genre. Too bad they can't just simply port games over to vr. Alien isolation and Soma would be great.

I wouldnt go as far as to say its the best horror game ever, but it is the best horror game since the first Dead Space.Period.

They really have crafted something really special with this.Hopefully with this Capcom learns that not every game needs to be action packed and some performs much better if they keep it close to their roots, both critically and sales wise. And also, you know, keeps it catalogue diverse, which is always positive.

With any luck, this marks a turning point for Capcom to become again the developer it once was, one that always developed quality game no matter the title, not one that which quality output seems like a rollercoaster ride.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

This is a very light spoiler, but i'll black it out anyway in-case you want to go in blind:

It does start out like that, but the further in you get the more like Resident Evil it becomes. The transition is quite smooth, and the two themes balances out surprisingly well. The general plot being much more confined (even in the latter half) helps add weight to what would normally be just be pure RE cheese.

I agree so much with what you say. After 8 hours as well, I am thinking about the RE1 and RE2 days, thinking how much this 7 impress me at the same level or more those did when I was a teenager.

I love how you phrased it: "it is badass and confident in the delivery."

Absolutelly right, it should be the tagline of the game ads.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.
