Forums - Website Topics - Non-English letters don't work in wall post replies, other writing systems don't work in PMs

OK, so I'm not really sure if this is a problem that most people here are even aware or really care about, but this site has a problem with recognizing non-English letters. For example, if I post a comment on somebody's wall, the characters work fine, but when I or he/she responds it will end up garbled (for example letters like é or ü). I also tried to send someone a PM before in Japanese, and it did not work recognize the characters at all.

I've seen this too. The walls don't let me use the letter Ñ.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Yeah, so you can't even say the word sí.

That's a known issue, as far as I'm aware. The first comment in a wall is fine, but the replies to that comment don't recognize those symbols/letters.

It does, indeed, suck.

Please excuse my bad English.

Yeah, I'm just wondering if it's an easy problem to fix, or if it'd need a huge recoding of the website.

That's something that maybe only Trucks knows.

But with so many other things to fix, I don't know when it would be fixed, if it can be.

Yes, has been known for some time.. things only work on wall posts but replies don't have any formatting (bolding, linking or embeds) or foreign characters :/

Has the PM thing been known as well? I tried to send vivster a message before in Japanese asking if he had any good learning resources, and it did not work, so I had to ask him in English.

I don't think we have UTF-8 encoding except on forum posts (こんにちは,Здравствуйте). I guess walls and PMs might only be in ASCII?
