I "use it as both" too in the sense that it's there and sometimes I don't feel like staring at the little screen. It's convenient that it comes with a TV dock, but frankly I would have rather it came dockless and cost $50-$80 less.

How do sales show that the hybrid concept is what's selling it?

Ebay is your friend. Let us know when you put it up.

Because A: The marketing is centered around it, it's not positioned as anything else and B: demographics data show that it used as it was marketed. It's that feature that is selling it as it is.

What demographics data is that?

I have a Switch. It's very clearly a handheld first and foremost, and the home console/ tabletop experience is clearly an afterthought after using it for a month. The home console experience out of the box is tedious at best, and very underwhelming at worst.

So yeah, I'll keep calling the Switch a handheld, thanks. Nintendo almost definitely isn't making a 3DS replacement because they already did.

But I have a switch too. It’s very clearly a home console first. The handheld experience is clearly an afterthought after using it for a month. The handheld experience is tedious at best and very underwhelming at worst.

See how just saying that proves absolutely no point?

Its up to everyone's preference. I prefere the home console side of it but most prefer the Handheld side. We can just say the concept is working perfectly.

That doesn't actually tell us that people are regularly playing in both modes. All it shows is that of registered users, of the hours we logged, these are the percentage of users that play over 80% on TV, over 80% on undocked or somewhere in between. 70% of Switch users could be spending 70% of the time in handheld mode and this chart would look exactly the same.

Furthermore, even if people are using both modes doesn't mean that they bought it because it offers both modes. I'd say I'm probably in the "playing both modes" if you checked my hours and like I said, I wouldn't care less if it didn't come with a dock. But it did, and I have it, so i might as well use occasionally. But hey if you want to pretend that this means the hybrid mode is a critical reason for sales, then that's on you.

It does say that. It says that of Switch users, 20% plays it in TV mode primarely, 30% plays it undocked primarely and 70% plays it in both modes regularly. The Switch updates that data as soon as you go back online (it's basic polling data from those that played the game docked or undocked). There is no other spin to it, it's exactly what it says and people are using it exactly as advertised.

That's not what it says. It says that of Switch users, 20% plays it in TV mode exclusively, 30% plays it undocked primarely and 70% plays it in both modes regularly. The Switch updates that data as soon as you go back online. There is no other spin to it, it's exactly what it says and people are using it exactly as advertised.

First off - basic math: 20 + 30 + 70 = 120%. So you're not even reading the graph correctly. But furthermore, they actually explain their figures on the chart.

The actual numbers are: 18-19% with 80% time used in TV mode, 30% with 80% usage or mode in handheld mode, and 51-52% that don't use their Switch over 80% of the time in either mode.

"Figures for Nintendo Switch gameplay for registered Nintendo Account users, gathers via the Internet. Showing hardware where play time for either docked or undocked modes exceeds 80% as "gameplay in XX mode is primary". Source: Nintendo

So if 75% of Nintendo Switch users use their Switch in handheld mode 75% of the time, how would the chart look any different? it wouldn't.

Don't the included instructions suggest letting it charge before setting up and playing? Or am I remembering incorrectly. I just charged the joycon for like 20mins first and then dove in. Didn't have to charge for ~4hrs. After that point, the joycon being charged has never even been a consideration. Once they're fully charged, there good to go unless you don't dock them overnight.

How is that relevant? It still doesn't change the fact that if your joycon dies, there's no way to charge it and play TV mode at the same time out of the box.
