Updated OP with a few I missed. Big news here is that Sony feels comfortable launching their next big IP with a female lead. This is a game they want to be on the same level as Uncharted and God of War.

That doesn't make any sense to me. You can't play a game if it has a female protagonist?

The only game that has a female protagonist that I have beaten in the Tomb Raider reboot.  Every other game I have tried, I lost interest half way through.  This includes, but not limited to, Dino Crisis 2, Resident Evil 3, Final Fantasy X-2, Bayonetta 1/2, and Gravity Rush.

Hell I still have Rise of the Tomb Raider in wrapped in plastic because I have no desire to play it.  I cannot immerse myself in a game that has a female lead, and therefore takes away from the experience for me.  I have tried, does not work.

Nothing against the vision of the developer, but I have no desire to play these games no matter how good they are because I already know that I cannot enjoy myself playing as a female lead.  Nothing wrong with these games, but I will not blow my money to support them when I already know I will not be able to enjoy it as much as I should.

It is just a personal preference, nothing more.

Bruhh, dont u like looking at pretty things. Dont u remember the good ole times when squirrels and weasels were the main character.

It's a common tactic to garner positive attention from the media - make a "strong" female character, whatever that is. That's why most games have female leads now.

Seems a far cry from last gen when it was sort of tabboo by marketing people to feature a girl character prominently on the cover because it would sell less. Was Naughty Dog that broke the trend by refusing to hide away Ellie on the cover of TLOU?

Samus Aran and Lara Croft would like a word with you.

Having strong female characters is great. Forcing it to manufacture a false sense of "diversity", is artistically bankrupt.

Considering how many games I bought last gen solely because of the female lead, I wouldn't say this is some new trend. You probably just weren't looking for it.

Agreed ,same here my favoritefrom then was Alyx Vance from Half- Life 2 and -episode1 and 2 , sure she started out as Gordons side kick but to me it felt like she quickly became his  partner rather than an add on character.

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

gawd the gamefaqs board for Horizon is as toxic as the worst youtube comments

Metroid is dead and TR is a staple franchise, both have been around for decades. Horizon is probably the biggest game with a female lead to launch since TR in 1996.

I don't see how that matters.

As long as the games are good, the gender of the lead character shouldn't matter.

That's cool. I like bewbs.
