Zelda 1, technically. But what really got me into the series was A Link to the Past for SNES.

I remember my first time with ALTTP. I remember the thing that struck me over everything else was how good the sounds were, be it the music or the sound effects. Everything sounded so good compared to everything I had played before it. To this day, I still love the way it sounds and wouldn't change anything about it.

And the game went on to become my all time favourite title in the series. It's pretty much a flawless game, as far as I'm concerned. It also stands the test of time remarkably well. Only other title to have that status for me is Super Metroid.

A Link Between Worlds. I later played other Zelda games too (remakes and virtual console), but I still think ALBW is the best one.

The original Legend of Zelda. Has to be my most played Zelda as well since almost 3 decades later (I got it in 1989), I still go back and play it over again.

The original. It was life-changing. I pity those who will never get to experience it upon its original release.

It was Link's Awakening. Played through it with my bro under a lamp on GBA about 15 years ago. It's still my favorite handheld Zelda.

Technically my first is Ocarina of time on Wii U virtual console but for realz, breath of the wild seems to be the game that might make me a true zelda fan

Just a guy who doesn't want to be bored. Also

A Link to the Past

Great game, but overrated. Link's Awakening is where Zelda grabbed me, amazing game.

You should chat up S.Peelman. He adores Link's Awakening.

@OP: I definitely played the first two games on NES, but the first one I beat was A Link to the Past. On a side note, this series means more to me than any other, and I can't imagine playing games without it.

We always do, during the greatest games thread, every year XD

Yep. You guys know it.

Well Link's Awakening and Ocarina, those two are the pinnacles, the.. silver spires, if you will, of the series. (OT:) But neither of those aren't my first Zelda games though, that was A Link to the Past. Or at least I'm like 90% sure because I don't think my aunt, who was my main source of games until the N64 days, had Zelda 1 or 2. I don't remember playing those as a child at least. Anyway, A Link to the Past holds a very special place because of it even though it was surpassed by a host, but not terribly many, of other Zelda games; it was my introduction, and it ignited long lasting love.

Link's Awakening.

Even played it on a TI-83.

For real? What the hell was I doing making graphs on the thing then! :-|

Ocarina of Time along with Majora's Mask.

My first Zelda game is also The Wind Waker for GameCube. I'm really bad at stealth so I got too nervous at Forsaken Fortress and never got past it. But I eventually did, and it's still my favourite Zelda game to this day, as well as my favourite game of all time
