Forums - Gaming Discussion - Have your thoughts on Nintendo going mobile changed?

I was always supportive of them dipping into mobile revenues. It can be a great way to earn some extra cash for the main business, and even act as advertising for their core home-console business.

Around the Network

I was more curious than fearful when Nintendo announced going mobile. Fortunately, they made games that fit within the aspects of their respective series (i.e. Mario Run still emphasizing on Mario's ability to jump and run and FE Heroes emphasizing on the strategy and vast cast of characters from the series). Plus it's a great way to continue spreading awareness of their IPs. If you don't think Pokemon Go had any influence to the explosive sales of Sun and Moon, then you may need to reorient yourself and see the building trend of the Pokemon series since Go exploded onto the scene. Hopefully, mobile, along with movies, tv shows, merchandise, the theme parks, etc., will bring in new fans and consumers to Nintendo.

If anything they should have gone mobile a LONG time ago. Any opposition was mostly based in paranoia and fear

If by paranoia and fear you mean logic and reasoning that is.

Yeah some people really thought they were going to go full mobile or put full games on Phones, funny how none of that happened so yeah, it wasnt based on logic, but fear.

I was completely against the idea of Nintendo doing mobile games, because the usual proposals from investors as well as people on VGC were about putting Virtual Console games and sequels on smartphones. Both of these moves would hurt Nintendo's core business, hence why I was so against them.

When I learned about Nintendo making games for smartphones, it was right in the middle of the press conference for the announcement. I was disappointed at first, but that changed as soon as I read the English transcript of Nintendo's announcement. What Iwata said there made a lot of sense. It made so much sense that I was baffled that nobody came up with this idea before. Since that point I fully supported Nintendo's decision and I got no reason to be disappointed with it. By now Nintendo's strategy has proven to work as intended. Not only are Nintendo's smartphone games not harming their core business, they are actually boosting it.

This as almost exactly my thought process rather than exactly like it, I more accept it and microtransactions just bother me way too much.

Going mobile =/= Going full mobile.

The Switch and 3DS are consoles. Despite being able to take them anywhere with relative ease, they are not mobile devices in the same sense as smartphones.

Never go full mobile.

Lol I really thought if that the meme when writing that.
