external HDD support will hopefully also be useable for game installations - the description reads a bit vague on that point
3D BR support on PSVR is a good addition aswell (should've been there from launch tbh)
Finally, now i can buy cheap PS4 games as many as i can. Since i sold a lot of PS4 games that shrunk down from 60s to 13 games, i'll buy PS4 games again next year.

Grab some popcorn and enjoy! There are more features included in 4.50, so make sure to keep an eye out for additional info, including launch timing, in the weeks to come." Interesting. I'm a fan of 3D actually. Some movies I wouldn't otherwise be impressed by have really good 3D. So this may be a better way of watching them than getting a 3D tv or trying to hook up my 3d Monitor. |
I'm a fan of 3D movies myself, but I doubt the PSVR is "a better way" to watch them at this point. The PSVRs display and the 1080p S3D video feed are just too low resolution to have a crisp looking picture that fills most of your field of view. A clear advantage however is that there is no ghosting.
Additionally a number of PSVR owners have drift-issues in cinematic mode - that said they might activate the camera tracking for the 3D movie player in order to eliminate drift.
With PSVR V2 and 4K 3D movies it might very well be better then watching 3D videos on TV/Monitor.

Also, all the applications saved in the external HDD will appear in the Content Launcher of the Home Screen so it’s easy to keep track of what apps you launched recently."
Yeah. Why are they using the term "applicaitons" in both references. How crazy would that be if it doesn't work for GAMES and only Netflix, Hulu, and other "Apps"..

on the european blog it's much less vague https://blog.eu.playstation.com/2017/02/03/ps4-system-software-4-50-beta-starts-today/
Struggling to find space for all the games you want to play? Well worry no more; you can now connect a USB 3.0 external HDD and download, save and install games, apps and add-ons directly onto your removable HDD. You can also move any games and apps you’ve already saved onto it to help you stay organised.
When you connect the external HDD, everything will be accessible from your PS4 Home Screen as normal. What’s more, your PS4 will support an external HDD up to 8TB in size, giving you a huge amount of space to play with.
I hope that means you can also play those games stored on the external HDD from there, but after reading the above I'm pretty convinced you'll be able to do that.

With 3D Tv's beaing prounced DEAD. I wonder if this takes off, will future 4k Blu-Ray's say "3D VR SUPPORT" instead of just 3D. lol

Best update, ever.
At this point, the only thing I could ask for is a better cloud storage option and the PS4 would be perfect.
external HDD support!! It's about freakin time!!
This update sounds pretty good. External HDD support and custom backgrounds ftw!
