It doesn't have the hardware to be a "Next gen console".
Microsoft will get ripped apart in various gaming circles if they take that marketing angle.

Yeah, but our "gaming circles" are the minority.

Theres a hardcore and mainstream market in every industry though. Sure a smaller issue that only affects the hardcore, like PS3 removing OtherOS, doesn't catch on with the general public, but RROD does. The Xbone reveal does. Joe Gamers parents might not understand what DRM means, but they know what no used games means. They know what always online means. If a problem is big enough, everyone knows about it. And MS kicking off a "next gen" console with no games and the rumored gap between Scorpio and Pro, that would be big news. Not only from.the standpoint of what a weak launch it would be, but also how ripped off a lot of Xbone owners would feel.

If this conspiracy theory is right then MS had better have a lot of exclusive launch games they're somehow keeping completely quiet AND have a larger upgrade than leaked or it won't be a big deal in the market at all.

Which I'm not expecting it to be a big deal in the market, just like the Pro.

Price and brand strength: tons of people still argue that the XB1 is more powerful, and many more used to.

Yes, that " second GPU" rumor that was denied after 2 weeks by MS itself is still alive in some gaming sites.

I'd be willing to bet that, outside of forums like these, the percentage of people who still argue such is markedly higher.

The average person doesn't even know what "DRM" means, though.

No but they don't need to know what DRM means to be affected by the massive negativity that surrounded the Xbox One Product/Brand because of it.

If something is surrounded by negativity it will affect them, whether they understand why or not.

I agree, but the point is that the general lack of sophistication creates greater susceptibility to marketing ploys.

This is true, but, if they blanket the marketing channels with next-gen and it gets picked up, the ability of our minority to contradict them message is substantially diminished. All it really takes is the tagline and games that launch with the system, while not mentioning they're also on X1 (the old "throw the logo at the end of the commercial tactic"). Hell, that nonsense even works with marketing exclusivity, which is mindnumbingly effective.

Having said that unless it has a new CPU, its not next gen.

Ideally Microsoft would also set a higher goal than 6TF for the GPU.

So would you consider it Next-Gen if it used Puma?

I knew it and said so on these forums months ago. This is their next generation console. It's going to be backwards compatible.

MS is trying to pull a 360 i see. Original Xbox came and went, then they tried beat Sony to the punch by releasing the Xbox360 one year ahead of PS3. Only four years after the first Xbox. Now, four years after Xbox One, the same procedure, labeling the Scorpio as a "Next Gen Console". Tabula Rasa, and i bet not having "One" in the name will be an essential detail.

But it's NOT a next gen console. The jump in power is no where near big enough for it to be seen that way. What I'm seeing though, as I suspected, is a willingness from the XB1 community to believe the false narrative, and this is why MS could possibly get away with it.

The PS5 Exists.

Well, it worked with X360...the problem is they would need console with at least something like new Titan X inside and not Scorpio...which, at this point, is not feasible.

"the XB1 community" = a couple YouTube trolls you follow for whatever reason, who make dumb videos to generate clicks from said followers.

Personally all these threads and theories and worries, I think you're making way too big a deal about the Scorpio, what its impact might be, and what Sony needs to do to respond. I mean, its January. We don't even have specs or launch details or any real marketing.
