Theres a hardcore and mainstream market in every industry though. Sure a smaller issue that only affects the hardcore, like PS3 removing OtherOS, doesn't catch on with the general public, but RROD does. The Xbone reveal does. Joe Gamers parents might not understand what DRM means, but they know what no used games means. They know what always online means. If a problem is big enough, everyone knows about it. And MS kicking off a "next gen" console with no games and the rumored gap between Scorpio and Pro, that would be big news. Not only from.the standpoint of what a weak launch it would be, but also how ripped off a lot of Xbone owners would feel.
If this conspiracy theory is right then MS had better have a lot of exclusive launch games they're somehow keeping completely quiet AND have a larger upgrade than leaked or it won't be a big deal in the market at all.
Which I'm not expecting it to be a big deal in the market, just like the Pro.
