Mic/headphone jack is great for portable mode, but what will be done about HOME CONSOLE mode where those features are disabled?

That is what I think the app is for.

I don't get it. Why can't Nntendo just come out and say that you can voice chat without the app. A simple one line confirmation on twitter would be all. Yet people have to do mental gymnastics to figure this mystery out.

lol, I was thinking about random matches, not combined matches betweeen friends, the app would synchronize with the match so you coud talk with the other players.

It's just a TRRS connection, don't have to be WoW'ed by it lol. The APP is most likely a gateway tool.

Voice chat can only be used among friends though, atleast that's what they made it sound like.
