Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Framerate Issue Gone!

Its been a while since I played the Wii U Version. Can't remember if I had any problems regarding framerate.

Well that sucks, then.

Everyone I play MK8 with not only notices, but is also quite bothered by the 30fps in multiplayer. It does hinder the playability of the game quite a lot, actually.

You can fix that if everyone will bring their own Switch to the party :P

Wasn't that a bug? It showed two of the same frames instead of showing a new one. Or something. Maybe I'm just remembering wrong. Anyway in either case good that it's fixed then, even though it was totally unnoticeable.

I don't know what it is, bug?, glitch? who knows. Nevertheless, it was pretty obvious for me and I am glad, that this is being adressed for the switch. Sadly, it was never fixed for the WII U.

I will get the Switch version and throw the WII U Disc out of the window.

Sure, that's already a nice thing, and I can't imagine how hype 8-player would be.

It would still be good if 4 people could sit together and play on the couch without the game being hindered, though (and certainly easier if not everyone gets a Switch so soon).

Obviously, this would be the cheapest solution. But I guess the 4 player mode puts to much stress on the hardware. You have to render 4 positions simultanously instead of 1 or 2.

I'm not sure if this was ironic or not. In case it wasn't, well, I definitely never noticed when it dropped to 59fps before.

What I did notice, of course, was the drop to 30fps when playing 3 or 4 player splitscreen, and unfortunately that is still gonna happen on the Switch version because they chose resolution over framerate (sigh).

Can you imagine how much of the visual integrity (asset quality, polygon count, effects, etc.) would need to be altered or completely changed/reworked in order to have a 4 player split screen mode at 60fps?

Hint: A lot!

"Back in the good ol' days" devs simply removed things to make games run smoothly in splitscreen (and keep 60Hz). No need for dancing Toads that need to be rendered on each screen, swinging objects or fancy colors sprinkling everywhere when all you see is your kart and a fraction of the track at the sides of your kart (if you don't know the tracks, it's all about guessing where to go in splitscreen tbh since tracks aren't flat anymore but go up and down making turns on small screens for your non-gaming/noob/beginner friends stupidly hard).

But yeah, resolution is the future and Nintendo at least follows that path and still is blamed.

Here you got both extreme sides against each other, case closed :P

We really need to stop panicking about stutters and such in demos or games that are still a ways from launch. It's just silly.

Honestly, at this point I'm usually more concerned when a game looks and runs TOO perfectly haha

Well, this stutter is still present in the finished release of MK8 for WII U.

Zelda BOTW Switch framerate issues are something for a different topic.

Really? Fair enough.

I've played the hell out of Mario Kart 8 and never noticed tbh, it pushed the Wii U farther than I thought possible and was absolutely beautiful imo

Never seen any stutter in MK8 for the WiiU...

It drops from 60fps to 59fps regularly.

It blows my mind someone would not even notice such an abysmal and horrendous drop.

It's easy to laugh at it because the numbers are small, but micro stutters and frame-pacing issues can really bother some people. I've never personally had any problems with it (i rarely even notice such issues), but I've got a friend that outright refuses to finish FF15 until they've patched its frame-pacing issues, and his response to me linking him this video just now was "OH THANK FUCK" :p
