Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Framerate Issue Gone!

This is great news, for me and for those who have actually noticed it.

The microstutter in MK8 because of a duplicated frame is gone on the Switch version. NO STUTTER!!!!

Finally I can enjoy this game to the fullest.

Did they replace it with more advanced stutter? I'm not a fan of removing features in a port.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

It's so subtle that I don't even notice the stutter in the Wii U version. -___-

I'm not sure if this was ironic or not. In case it wasn't, well, I definitely never noticed when it dropped to 59fps before.

What I did notice, of course, was the drop to 30fps when playing 3 or 4 player splitscreen, and unfortunately that is still gonna happen on the Switch version because they chose resolution over framerate (sigh).

Can you imagine how much of the visual integrity (asset quality, polygon count, effects, etc.) would need to be altered or completely changed/reworked in order to have a 4 player split screen mode at 60fps?

Hint: A lot!

Wasn't that a bug? It showed two of the same frames instead of showing a new one. Or something. Maybe I'm just remembering wrong. Anyway in either case good that it's fixed then, even though it was totally unnoticeable.

It was never a real issue anyways, game always runs smooth as hell,

I noticed it, and so did a lot of people.

You notice it when you're on a straight line.

I don't get your point..? The game already has a 4-player splitscreen mode.

I forgot to mention the 60fps part. xD

I will edit my post, but it should read as:

I still don't see why that would have to be the case. The game already runs at 60fps, why can't they just put it at 60fps during splitscreen? Isn't it possible to just lower the resolution back to 720p for splitscreen specifically instead of lowering the framerate?

FPS and resolution don't scale linearly. Maybe they tried to go 720p and that resolution drop was still not enough to reach 60fps? How low is it acceptable for them to go? They probably decided to go for what they believed to be the lesser of two evils. Or maybe they simply didn't want to compromise the integrity of the game's look. Maybe they simply didn't think the game was going to be played this way all that much, considering its online mode, and most likely its 8 players close-range wi-fi mode.

It isn't that simple. There is work that the CPU does and work the GPU does. Lowering resolution will only reduce the load on the GPU, but a lot of the reason why it is 30fps in four player split screen is because the game is doing CPU calculations for all four players. That means that CPU intensive parts of the game (Animation, AI, Particles, Geometry, etc)  will have to be changed. It is just easier to lock it at 30fps, and few people will notice or care when playing split screen.
