I know I see a lot of Switch vs PS4/XB1 talk, but what about Switch vs 3DS?

people, even if it's on the level of Wii U/slightly less, that is going to OBLITERATE ANYTHING we've ever seen on a Nintendo handheld.

 

Goodbye 240p gaming! Hello to portable gaming in HD! The Vita kind of got there, but it died 20 miles along the way. hopefully the Switch isn't left to rot out into the desert like the Vita.

 

In all seriousness though, I'm sure Nintendo will be capable of doing a lot more. It'd be nice if Donkey kong: tropical freeze got ported as well.

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

This is going to be the most powerful dedicated handheld to date. Even if it doesn't reach PS4 power, the Switch is going to ba a major power jump. I just hope the games actually use that potential. Series like Monster Hunter and Pokemon are in dire need of HD treatment.

It's a very tricky situation to think about.
If you view the Switch as a Console 1st, Handheld 2nd, then the power may be a bit underwhelming.
If you view it the other way around, Oh definitely, it's super powerful!

Either way, I'm looking forward to it!
January 12th can't come soon enough!

Hopefully it replaces their handheld units. But games like Pokémon still need to be kept realitively simple ie isometric view etc

I don't know if we should call it a powerful handheld. Sure it is more powerful than the 3DS but what isn't these days?

I think a 3DS replacement is still coming I think Nintendo may release a smaller portable only Switch.

No way, Nintendo is smarter to compete with itself. I guess this hybrid thing will help them concentrate on one console, so that they can get all the support it needs.

if the OS, the architecture and the library of games is the same, it's not competiting.

It would be something like the 3DS/new 3DS/2DS family

I'll be honest and say that I'd rather stick with my 3DS. Switch doesn't seem to be on the portable side, it would feel like walking around with the Wii U.gamepad.
